Opening and Saving of Objects in BW ( amended )

Use

The Open dialog has been changed in the following ways:

  • The Open dialog is now context sensitive. When opening queries, work folders and alerts from Business Explorer, the system displays a seperate dialog for each object type, and not all three object types in one dialog.
  • The new Open dialog has different views which can be switched on and off using the application toolbar on the left. There is a history, a view of personal favorites, and a role-specific view. Additionally, for work folders, Web templates and Web items, there is the tree structure familiar from version 2.0A.

The favorite and role views are not available for alerts, query views and InfoCubes.

  • The new open dialog has a history in which (dependent on user and system ) the user's last 15 entries are displayed.
  • There is a favorites view and a role based view for queries, work folders and Web templates, In each case, objects are displayed in a tree structure.
  • The search takes place in the backend of the BW system. The following search options are available:
  • search by creator

  • search by amendment date

  • search by the technical name, by the descriptive text, or both.

  • search by queries using InfoProvider

  • free combination of the individual search options.

  • support the search using wildcards

This search is not available for alerts.
  • You can add obects to your favorites and store them in a freely defined hierarchical index structure.
  • You can remove objects from your favorites or your roles. You can also delete queries as in Release 2.0B.
  • You can enter an object directly in the input Field, in the lower part of the dialog, and open it immediately. If the request is ambiguous, the system displays a list of search results, from which you can select the required entry. This service is not available for alerts.

There are the following changes to the save dialog:

In the new save dialog, you can have your own favorites tree and role view, where you select the folder to which you want to save the object. You can add or remove folders. When saving, you need to enter a name and descriptive text according to the Object type.
