Change Notification Service (Enhanced)

Use

As of SAP Netweaver 7.1 the enhanced version of the Change Notification Service (CNS) is available. From now on, the system differentiates between applications that create change pointers and applications that receive change pointers. This is reflected in the new and enhanced IMG activities. The application that creates change pointers can now transfer a process ID and an application-specific selection criterion to the change pointer. In addition, the receiving application can make selections based on the application-specific selection criterion.

The enhancements do not affect Change Notification Service applications that already exist for the functionality.

Effects on Customizing

Customizing table TCNS_MAPPIN_CUST is now delivered in delivery class C (previously E). Database table TCNS_RECEIVERS (delivery class E, cross-client) replaced database table TCNS_RECEIVER (delivery class C, cross-client).

The applications that receive change pointers are cross-client applications (table TCNS_EXP_REC).

The following new IMG activities are available:

The following IMG activities have been renamed and enhanced:

  • Old description: Activate Application for Change Notification Service
Renamed as: Make Settings for Export Objects Types
  • Old description: Activate Recipient for Change Notification Service
Renamed as: Activate Applications that Receive Change Pointers

If you make changes to Customizing settings, inconsistencies due to the enhancements can occur because of changes made to the foreign key relationships. To find these, you use the new Customizing Check Report for the Change Notification Service. You can use this check report to find and correct inconsistent or missing entries in IMG activities.
