Central Software Deployment Manager (New)

Use

As of this release, you can now use the Central Software Deployment Manager (CSDM) to automate the installation or upgrade of software for mySAP CRM Field Applications, from a centralized location. This application is a management console that allows you to define, execute, and monitor the deployment of software packages for mobile clients and mobile client components.

The tools for installing or upgrading a mobile client have already been developed by SAP, such as the Mobile Upgrade Console, the Mobile Application Studio, and so on. The Central Software Deployment Manager uses these different tools in way that it can start and control the execution of these tools or activities without the need to have manual intervention on different systems during the entire process.

Technical Process

Using the Central Software Deployment Manager, you can automate an upgrade or installation by performing the following functions:

  • Defintion of the System Landscape
You can define and maintain a hierarchical tree structure of your system landscape across environments such as developments, test, and production environments.
  • Configuration of Processes
You define of a set of activities that must be performed for an upgrade or an installation of software packages on various systems in your landscape. These activities are grouped as processes and process groups, each consisting of actions and tasks.
  • Definition of the Execution Process
You define the order in which the process are executed and then assign the processes and process groups to various systems. Finally you execute the upgrade or installation.
The number of systems that need to be upgraded in the system landscape could be very large in number. In such a situation, CSDM allows you to start process steps in parallel on the participating systems and control the execution depending on the landscape and process definition.
  • Monitoring and Trouble Shooting the Execution Process
After starting the execution, you will be shown the status information about the process execution on individual systems. You can view the process and task information and its current active status. The active status for a process could be:
  • Waiting for Execution

  • Executed Successfully

  • Executed with Errors
