Vendor Hierarchies (New)

Use

As of SAP SRM 5.0, you can use vendor hierarchies to handle vendors with complex organizational structures. A vendor hierarchy is a multilevel hierarchical structure that you can use to:

  • Search help for vendor hierarchies
The system displays the search result in the form of a hierarchy and allows you to navigate through the hierarchy tree
  • Assign vendors to a contract
  • Assign distributors and partnerships within the vendor hierarchy

The use of vendor hierarchies also improves your reporting capabilities for vendors within the Contract Management application.

You enter and change the vendor hierarchies in the standard SAP Business Partner Group Hierarchy application by using the transaction bph. You can also upload vendor hierarchies to the SRM system from a file via SAP Exchange Infrastructure (XI) and the File Adapter. For more information, see Consulting Note 831808.

Changes to the User Interface

If you chose to activate this capability in Customizing, the system adds new fields to the Manage Business Partnersscreen to enable you to use vendor hierarchies to search for a vendor.

To activate the vendor hierarchies function, you must set the appropriate indicator in the Implementation Guide (IMG) activity in the IMG for Supplier Relationship Management: SRM Server → Cross-Application Basic Settings → Activate Hierarchies for Product Categories, Vendors, and Contracts.

To replace the standard vendor hierarchy type supplied in the system with your own vendor hierarchy type, you must make the appropriate settings in the Business Add-In (BAdI) in the IMG for Supplier Relationship Management: SRM Server → Business Add-Ins (BAdIs) → Master Data → Definition of Vendor Hierarchy Types.
