Granting Long Service Leave Entitlements

Scope of Functions

It is common business practice to grant employees a one-off entitlement to long service leave once they have reached a certain anniversary, for example 37.5 hours of long service leave after 10 years service and 75 hours of leave 5 years later, when the employee has worked a total of 15 years.

Employees can usually take this leave at any time until their next entitlement to long service leave when they forfeit any remaining long service leave.

The Leave component, in conjunction with the Personnel Time Management component, enables you to define a set of rules to handle the granting of long service leave entitlements as well as any transfer period greater than 12 months.

You can define a series of transfer rules for long service leave. These define how many hours of long service leave an employee is entitled to after a particular number of years and can be based on:

  • Employee subgroup groupings for time quotas
  • Personnel subarea groupings for time quotas
  • Personnel subarea groupings for time recording

It is possible define up to three frequencies for the transfer of accrual into entitlement, for example after 10 years, 15 years and every year of service after that.

You can ensure that any remaining long service leave is forfeited when the next set of long service leave rolls over into entitlement.

If you grant your employees leave without pay (LWOP), you may want to delay the rollover into entitlement. You can configure rules to define if and how LWOP affects the date on which the employee becomes eligible for long service leave. In that case, you can also ensure that the employee does not forfeit his or long service leave until the delayed rollover occurs.
