Selection Variant

Scope of Functions

The Software Maintenance Process can be executed for:

  • Maintenance Level Management (MLM) - to distribute a new maintenance level of code for a SW product to licensed customers. This new level of code, which usually contains a corrections and fixes, is referred to as a maintenance level
  • Version Change Protection (VCP) - Supply the customers with a new SW license for a new product based on the customer having another licensed product.

The steps in the Software Maintenance Process are:

  • Specify the selection profile and selection variant(s)
  • Perform a selection run
  • Create Order
  • Process Customer response for Pull Orders
  • Issue delivery

The selection variant parameters have been enhanced to allow:

  • Entry to indicate which process (MLM or VCP) is being used.
  • Entry of an additional material which will be added to the SMP order.
  • Entry of (expanded selection):
  • Selection configuration. This was available in previous releases.

  • Update configuration, which can be used to override the default values. In previous releases this was handled by a customer exit to manipulate the configuration prior to order creation.

  • Inheritance characteristics for VCP. In a VCP process, characteristics of the old material can be selected for inheritance into the configuration of the new material. Only those characteristics, which are common to both the old and new material are selectable for inheritance.

  • Inclusion of non-IBASE materials in SMP variant creation and SMP Notification Orders. This allows users to include other items in an SMP shipment, such as promotional items, documentation, development news, etc.

One additional material field has been added to the SMP Variant Maintainscreen (OK29) and to the SMP Order Creation screen (OK31).

The following user exits have been renamed:

  • EXIT_SAPLOGSM_012 has been renamed to: EXIT_SAPLOGSS_012
  • EXIT_SAPLOGRL_006 has been renamed to: EXIT_ROGSMPDL_006
