Online Item Type

Description

The online item type has been added to the 4.02 Release of the IS-M Advertising Management component. This item type is designed for the sale of advertising in online publications. You can use an order item of the online item type to reproduce customer requests for advertising space (banner or button) on a particular web page in an online publication.

Item

You must enter a booking type in an online item. The booking type determines whether a position must be specified, the unit of measurement for gross impressions and whether settlement is performed for the item using the planned number of gross impressions booked or the actual number of gross impressions recorded.

Specifying a business content component allows you to categorize advertising contents using commercial criteria. You describe the booking period using a start and end date.

If a customer books a particular number of gross impressions, you can enter this number in the planned number of gross impressions field.

Booking units and technical content components describe the position of the advertising space available. You specify the position of the advertising space on the web page required using a positioning. You use the BU/cont.comp.assign. pushbutton to access the Booking Unit/Content Component Assignment screen where you can assign several booking units to an item and record the planned number of gross impressions for each booking unit. If you have assigned several booking units, the total number of planned gross impressions recorded for all booking units is displayed in the planned number of gross impressions field on the item detail screen. This field is no longer ready for input. You access the Content Component Assignment screen from here by selecting a line and clicking the Content component assignment details pushbutton. You can then assign several content components and any positionings required to the selected booking unit. If the booking unit concerned can no longer be changed on the Booking Unit/Content Component Assignment screen and the Several content components assigned indicator is set, this indicates that several content components are assigned to this booking unit. The first booking unit, technical content component and positioning are displayed on the item detail screen.

You can restrict advertising to particular target groups. However, this assumes that the technical positioning system used can categorize visitors to a web page using these target groups.

You can assign ad specs and ad spec copies to items of the online item type, as is the case for those of the advertisement item type. If various ad specs are to be displayed alternately, you must assign an ad spec with sub ad specs.

Sub-items and schedule lines
You can assign several booking units and technical content components to an online item. These booking units can be basic or combined booking units.
A combined booking unit is exploded into its lower-level basic booking units when the sub-items are generated. The system generates a sub-item for each assigned or exploded basic booking unit and each technical content component.
The system generates a schedule line for each sub-item on each day in the booking period, if the business content is included in the first booking unit assigned to the item for that day in the sales view and the technical content component is included in the associated basic booking unit in the technical view.
Actual gross impressions recorded are managed at schedule line level.

Ad spec split

If you want to assign a particular ad spec to an online item for each basic booking unit, technical content component or date, you can do this at sub-item and/or schedule line level.

Billing datasets

The system generates a billing dataset for each advertiser and booking unit in an online item. If you have set one of the following indicators in the master data for a combined booking unit, the system generates a separate billing dataset for each lower-level basic booking unit:

Unlike advertisement items, billing datasets are not exploded into individual dates. A billing dataset represents all schedule lines for the respective booking unit. The publication date of the first(earliest) basic booking unit is used as the service date for the billing dataset created. If the billing dataset was generated for a combined booking unit, the publication date of the associated reference basic booking unit is used.

Technical system interface

The Order transfer to tech.system (online) function is available to you in the Sales menu under Environment -> Technical system for exporting data to the technical system. You can select orders by booking unit and date and place these in an export file.

Effects on Customizing

  1. Specific features of the online item type

If you want to use the online item type, you must define units of measurement for gross impressions and booking types in Customizing for this item type and make all therelevant settings for the ad spec. If necessary, you can define positionings and target groups.
  2. Pricing

If you want to use the online item type, you must make all relevant pricing settings for this item type in Customizing: SAP Media - Industry-Specific Components -> Basic Functions -> Pricing -> Pricing in Advertising Management -> ....

You can define condition tables, condition types, access sequences and a separate pricing procedure for the item type if this is required in Customizing. You should also define a condition type with the 0 calculation type (quantity-dependent daily price) for prices that are dependent on the booking period.
Check the units of measurement for gross impressions under Global Settings -> Check units of measurement

  1. Output determination

If you want to use the online item type, you must make all relevant settings for output determination for this item type in Customizing: SAP Media - Industry-Specific Components -> Basic Functions -> Output Determination -> Output Determination in Advertising Management -> ...

Dependent functions

  1. COA determination and settlement

You can specify a booking type and a format proposal (online) for the online item type in the requirement elements of a COA contract.
  2. Agent determination and settlement

    No online-specific enhancements.
  3. Order billing

Billing datasets for online item types are billed in the same way as those for other item types.
  4. Revenue distribution

Revenue distribution for items in the preceding document is performed in the same way as for other item types. However, items are only divided into their individual objects at basic booking unit level. Different dates in the schedule lines are ignored.
There is no form of publisher settlement.

Planning

The following enhancements are planned for future releases:

  1. Periodic billing

In Release 4.02, it is not possible to divide an order item into several billing datasets with reference to the booking period. There are plans to meet this requirement using a function that corresponds to the billing plan in the standard SD application.
  2. Enhancement of the technical system interface

Confirmation of actual gross impressions from the technical system (Ad Server) is not supported in Release 4.02. At present, you must implement a project-specific solution for this purpose (e.g. batch input).
  3. Enhancements for target group-oriented advertising

A number of enhancements associated with target group assignment are planned. These include the following:
  • Target group-dependent ad spec assignment

  • Target group-dependent generation of billing datasets.

  • Target group definition using lists of 'Keywords' that the visitor to the site has used in searches.

  1. Planning

No planning functions are available to you in Release 4.02. A function for planning fixed spaces bookings is planned for future releases.

Further notes

Customizing

As of Release 4.02, the following tables are used for advertisement and online items:

  • TJH77: Location of Sub Ad Spec in Relation to Reference Ad Spec
  • TJH75: Sub Ad Spec/Linking Indicator
  • TJJ21: Template type for ad spec copies

The following indicators have been included in tables TJH77 and TJH75 that enable you to determine which table entry is valid for which item type:
