MED_MAM_1: Conversion of Units of Measure for Ad Sizes (New)

Use

Conversion

Classified ads are often sold in lines (internal unit of measurement ZL). The height of a line can vary in the different booking units and content components. It was not previously possible to convert the size of an ad spec from lines to column millimeters or column inches (CIN).

As of SAP ECC 6.0 Industry Extension Media Enhancement Package 4 (IS-M 604) Business Function 'Media: Advertising Management 2' (MED_MAM_1), conversion rules are available for units of measure. You can define the way in which the source unit of measure is to be converted to the target unit of measure according to the combination of thebooking unit, business content component, design ad type and target unit of measure. You specify the conversion factor as a counter and a denominator. The conversion is then performed using the following formula:

Ad size in target unit of measure = (counter / denominator) x ad size in source unit of measure

You always sell classified ads in the MEDPNC booking unit with the CARS content component in lines. The ad size is to be converted to CIN so that a contract discount can be granted. The line height in this combination of a booking unit and content component is 1/14 CIN. Enter the following conversion rules for this:

Booking unit Content Component Design Ad Type Target Unit of Measure Source Unit of Measure Counter Denominator
MEDPNC CARS Classified ad CIN ZL 1 14

If you now enter an order with an ad size of 35 lines, the ad size can be converted to 2.5 CIN.

During determination of the conversion rule to be applied, the system uses a three-level access sequence to access the conversion rules:

  • The first access takes place with specification of the booking unit, content component, design ad type and target unit of measure.
  • The second access takes place with specification of the booking unit, content component, and target unit of measure.
  • The final access takes place with specification of the booking unit and target unit of measure.

If you want to apply a general conversion rule, which is not dependent on the content component and design ad type, and an additional conversion rule, which is only to be applied to a specific content component and design ad type combination, to a booking unit, you only need to enter two rounding rules:

  • Specify the booking unit only for the general conversion rule and do not make any entries for the content component and design ad type.
  • Specify the booking unit, content component and design ad type for the additional rule.

Conversion rules are observed wherever the system converts ad sizes as standard. They can be applied to width and height information or complete sizes.

Lines as Height Information Only Unit of Measure

The Customizing settings supplied did not previously contain a unit of measure for lines as height information only. Many customers therefore used the existing unit of measure ZL, which actually represented the complete ad size as height information only and entered the ad size accordingly in columns x lines. These customers had to implement their own conversion of the ad size to a different unit of measure (for example during pricing) in the user exit EXIT_SAPLJHTD_007.

As of Release IS-M 604, the new unit of measure for the ad height Height Line (internal unit of measurement HLN) is available. This new unit of measure represents lines as height information only and can be used to enter ads in columns x height lines. A new standard conversion is also available, which converts ad sizes that were entered in columns x height lines to lines (as complete size information) according to the following formula:

Ad size in lines = ad width in columns x ad height in height lines

In conjunction with the conversion rules described above, ad sizes, which were entered in columns x height lines, can be converted to any unit of measure that represents a complete unit of measure. If you for instance want to convert columns x height lines to CIN, you only need to enter a corresponding conversion rule with the Lines source unit of measure and the Column Inches target unit of measure. The system performs this conversion automatically. You do not need to implement a user exit for this.

Effects on System Administration

This function is part of the enhancement implementation /NAM/IM_UNIT_CONVERSION. If you do not want to use this function, deactivate the /NAM/IM_UNIT_CONVERSION implementation using the BAdI Builder (transaction SE19).

The new unit of measure Height Lines is found in the Customizing settings supplied. Copy the entries for the T006, TJH57 and TJH61 tables in all clients in which you want to use Height Lines.

Effects on Customizing

To record conversion rules, choose the following on the SAP Easy Access screen: Logistics -> Advertising Management ->

Master Data -> Conditions -> Order/Billing Document -> Conversion of Units of Measure transaction /NAM/JH_UNIT_CONV).
