The Balancing Application Area

Scope of Functions

The Balancing application area supports four major business functions. First, it maintains product balancing agreements(PBAs), which are legal documents that define how imbalances are handled. Data for PBAs can be associated with other data in the SAP Oil & Gas System, such as measurement points, well completions, and materials.

Second, the Balancing application area calculates cumulative imbalancesbased on volumes from the Contractual Allocation (CA) application area.

The third business function that the Balancing subsystem supports involves direct input transactions . Direct input transactions can be used to override existing imbalances, to establish baseline cumulative imbalances for new PBAs, and to manually maintain imbalances for termination points that are not being processed through CA.

Monthly imbalance statements for owners are the fourth business function. They can be created by PBA or by termination point, and can be amended as necessary for prior period adjustments. The statements are based on a cumulative imbalance calculation, which is the net difference between the actual entitled volume or energy, added to the net difference accumulated over time.

  • Reporting

The reporting feature supports the generation of product balancing statements for each sales month. The statements can be generated either at the PBA level, which lists the sum of each owners entitled and actual quantities across termination points, or at the termination point level , which lists each owners entitled and actual quantities for each well completion or measurement point within a PBA.

Also, multiple PBAs can be grouped for reporting purposes.
