Offshore Logistics Management (OLM)

Use

The Offshore Logistics Management (OLM) system is designed to support the supply of materials to oil production platforms located offshore via base plants located onshore.

Offshore Logistics Management is subject to a separate license from SAP which involves additional costs. A licensing flag is available in the OLM activation transaction to indicate that a customer has purchased a license to use the OLM software. If the license flag is not set, a pop-up message will inform users of OLM related transactions that OLM is not licensed. The SAP licensing group will review this flag to check that OLM is licensed and if not take the appropriate action. For further information and to initiate the licensing process, please contact your SAP account manager.

The system comprises the following modules:

·,,Supply chain

·,,Goods receipt

·,,Shipping

·,,Holding

·,,Returns

·,,Material Tracking

Supply Chain

The supply chain module allows supply of materials to be configured according to the handling required, for example, whether a material is stocked onshore or offshore.

Direct purchase - A requirements document such as a plant maintenance order (PM order) can be used to generate a purchase requisition in OLM automatically. The Supply Chain component in OLM can be customized so that a transport requisition is automatically generated instead of a purchase requisition.

Goods Receipt

During the goods receipt of OLM materials that are to be shipped offshore, you can assign goods receipt items to deliveries ready for shipment, or accept the default assignment proposed by the OLM system.

Following goods receipt of offshore materials, the OLM module creates one or more deliveries ready for shipment. The deliveries are reported to you with all other goods receipt items in a "cross-docking" report that is presented automatically following the receipt of any OLM materials.

You can access OLM packing routines from the cross-docking report in which the deliveries created during goods receipt can be loaded into containers ready for shipment.

Splitting goods receipt items between deliveries - Upon goods receipt, you can split a GR item so that it is shipped on more than one delivery.

Packing and Shipping

The shipping module includes flexible master data records for containers that allow shipping containers to be defined according to alternative data sources, including the Plant Maintenance equipment master data records, a dedicated OLM container master data record and internet sources.

The flexible container master data record can be referenced from shipping units within a shipment to allow tracking of a particular container.

Packing routines are provided that use simple drag and drop functionality to allow packing of deliveries into containers outside a shipment and the transfer of packed containers into a shipment once the loading requirements are known.

A shipment receipt utility is provided to register the receipt of all deliveries in a shipment and also to release all the containers in a shipment for use in future shipments.

Holding

The holding module allows materials required offshore to be held onshore until the user requesting the materials is ready to receive them.

Holding is controlled within the original maintenance order or stock transport requisition and causes any subsequent deliveries to be blocked for shipment. When holding is removed from the original document, the delivery is unblocked automatically and can be shipped as required.

Returns

OLM introduces a returns request document that is used to control the return of materials and containers from an offshore location for various reasons including repair, scrap, waste, return to base stock and return to supplier.

You specify the materials to be returned and then generate subsequent documents such as a material transfer or a delivery note. The subsequent documents are automatically linked to the returns request which then serves as a controlling document for all returns activity.

Material Tracking

OLM provides a configurable reporting tool to allow tracking of materials from the initial document to the final receipt. The initial document can be a goods receipt or returns document, for example.

The tracking is presented as a document flow in an expandable tree structure so that as much or as little of the flow as required can be displayed. Statuses are displayed for each document flow depending on the level to which the document flow has progressed. Up to five independent statuses can be configured for each document flow.

Standard document flows are provided, but new ones can be created and configured using the navigation functions provided or customer-specific navigation functions.
