Multiple Usage of Same Serial Number for Device Category

Use

As of SAP IS-U/CCS 4.64 you can control, from individual device categories, which types of device master record are permitted.

You can make the following settings:

  • Devices and device information records permitted (default)
  • Only devices permitted
  • Only device info records permitted
  • Only device info records permitted but the same serial number may be used more than once

You can also create a serial number multiple times within a device category (serialization material). To make it easier to differentiate between individual device information records they now contain an info field and the field Service Provider. The search help has also been enhanced to include these fields. You can enter a text of your choice in the info field to make differentiation easier if the serial number is used multiple times.

If you want to make changes subsequently, the following restrictions apply in order to ensure consistency in the database:

Example:

  • You have chosen Only devices permitted and you have not yet created any devices.
=> You can change the settings.
  • You have chosen Only devices permitted and you have already created a device.
=> You can no longer change the settings.

You can also create device info records using using the master data generator. If you want to use the master data generator to create device info records with device numbers that have been used more than once and perform billing-related device installation, you must adjust your master data templates accordingly.

Choose Enter now and log on with your user and password. Now choose Industry Solutions -> mySAP Utilities -> Media Center -> IS-U/CCS-Core Components -> Cookbooks -> Master Data Templates.
