Use
This function is relevant for companies in the metal, paper, wood, and textiles industries that use batch processing in SAP. A production run produces several pieces that have many matching characteristics, but whose characteristics or details differ, for example, the quantity. For this reason, each unit produced is managed as a separate batch. It is still necessary to store joint information from several batches separately.
This is possible if you generate an original batch. The original batch describes a production lot that can have produced several single batches. The production lot contains the information that is the same for all the individual batches. This information can be saved in characteristics for the original batch and can then be accessed via this original batch. This avoids the need for reentering information in all the individual batches. Original batches are a part of Release IS-MP 1.0 and 2.0.
The usability of a batch can change during a process. This is mapped in the SAP system using batch status management.
The batch status of all stock batches belonging to an original batch is normally the same. At this point in time, you must maintain the batch status separately for each individual stock batch.
The new function "Central Maintenance of the Batch Status via the Original Batch" allows you to centrally maintain the batch status of all stock batches belonging to an original batch.
Process:
- Several stock batches exist for an original batch.
- The batch of the original batch is changed. This change to the batch status is automatically passed on to all stock batches belonging to the original batch, so that all batches have the same status.
- The corresponding stock postings are made in the background.
- You can change the batch status from "Unrestricted-use" to "Restricted-use" and vice versa.

Note that the batch where-used list is active, since this function is used to create the link between original batches and stock batches.
