Configuration Management (enhanced)
Use
New Object Types for Configuration Management
As of Release DI 4.6C2, you can add the following objects to configuration folders in addition to the object types from the 4.6C standard release:
- Class
- Characteristic
- BOM explosion number
New Baselining Process
As of Release DI 4.6C2, you can choose between two processes when creating a baseline:
- Create baseline immediately
- This process corresponds to the baselining in the 4.6C standard system. The system automatically explodes the structure and fixes the structure with today's date.
- Request baseline on a specific date
- In this process the baseline is first created in a changable state. The structure of the baseline is not exploded during creation. Until the specific date, you have time to complete changes to objects.
- This process offers you better control over the explosion results. You can start the automatic structure explosion several times, to check the results in advance if required. You can manually post-process the explosion result. If you restart the structure explosion, the system explodes the new objects without overwriting objects already in the structure, so your manual changes are kept.
- Then you fix the structure. The system status shows you how far the process has progressed.
Improved Structure Explosion for Baselining
As of Release DI 4.6C2, the automatic structure explosion supports a range of new object types and can be flexibly configured in Customizing, using an explosion profile.
New Object Types for Baselines
As of Release DI 4.6C2, the following objects types are supported in addition to the object types in the standard 4.6C release:
- Class
- Characteristic
- Overwritten characteristic
- Classification
- Constraint
- Constraint net
- Configuration profile
- Local dependencies
- Global dependencies
- Variant function
- Variant table (structure)
- Variant table (contents)
- Explosion result
- Further Information
The new object types are fixed in the baseline structure, but the objects themselves are not fixed.
Status Management for Baselines
As of Release DI 4.6C2, baselines have status management. This is especially important if you request a baseline for a specific date. The system status shows you at all times how far the baselining process has progressed.
For detailed documentation, see the SAP Library Logistics -> Logistics - General -> Configuration Management -> Status Management in Configuration Management -> System Status for Baselines.
Background Functions for Baselining
As of Release DI 4.6C2, you can use the following functions for background processing:
- Create baseline in the background
- You can use this function to schedule a background job for creating one or more baselines at a specific time.
- Explode baseline in the background
- You can use this function to schedule a background job for exploding the structure of one or more baselines at a specific time.
If a background job is running, this is shown in the configuration folder by the system status. During background processing, you can display the configuration folder or baseline, but you cannot change it.
