Material Master (Industry): Check Table for Basic Materials

Description

Release 4.5A includes a check table for any basic materials specified when maintaining a material master record. If, in the standard R/3 System, a basic material is entered on the Basic Data screen, it is checked against the basic materials contained in this check table. If the basic material is not contained in this check table, the system responds in one of the following ways (which you can define in Customizing for the Material Master in the activity Define attributes of system messages):

• It issues a warning message or an error message telling you that the basic material does not exist.

In this case, you must specify one of the basic materials listed in the activity Define basic materials.

• It does not issue any message.

In this case, you do not need to specify one of the basic materials listed.

It is useful to specify the basic materials allowed if you want to refer to them in programs of your own and you need to be certain that, for example, there are no differences in their spelling.
