Industry and Retail: Period Closing at the End of the Fiscal Year

Use

Although the period closing program was fundamentally revised in Release 4.5A to avoid long runtimes, the locking of all materials, and inconsistencies due to incorrect handling (see Release Note Enhancements to Period Closing), the material ledger tables were still updated by the period closing program in Release 4.5A, and stock tables (MARD, MCHB, and special stock tables) were still updated at the end of the fiscal year in Releases 4.5A, 4.5B, and 4.6A because the physical inventory indicators had to be updated in these tables.

As of Release 4.6B, these stock tables are no longer updated at the end of the fiscal year. As a result, the runtime at the end of the fiscal year is just as short as at the end of periods not coinciding with the end of the fiscal year. This does not affect the way the period closing program is run.

Technical Information

The current physical inventory indicators in the stock tables (for example, field MARD-KZILL) no longer relate to the current fiscal year defined in the administration table for the company code (table MARV), but relate to the fiscal year of the current physical inventory indicators. The field containing the fiscal year of these indicators has been included in all relevant stock tables (for example, field MDJIN in table MARD). If this field has its initial value or null value, the relevant current physical inventory indicators relate to the fiscal year in which your system was upgraded to Release 4.6B or to a later release.
