Competitor Prices

Scope of Functions

This function is an extension of the sales price calculation function and is divided into the following main areas:

  • Entering competitor prices in the system:
You can use price entry lists, which you have the system generate automatically, to enter competitor prices for particular materials. To do this, you send the price entry lists (by fax, for example) to the stores responsible for entering the competitor prices. The prices in the lists can then be manually included in the price entry lists in the system. The competitor prices are posted by the system as condition records.
  • Using competitor prices for defining sales prices in sales price calculations:
You can display (and if necessary, change) the competitor prices created in the system in a separate detail screen in the screen containing the pricing table. This is to assist you in determining your own sales prices.
You can use the competitor prices to generate a suggested price that can be displayed in the pricing table by selecting an appropriate list variant in the "Suggested price" list field. The suggested price is determined using the algorithm (for example, that the suggested price should be 3% under the lowest competitor price) that you defined in the pricing strategy (Customizing).

In the previous Release, it was possible to take competitor prices into account in sales price calculations. However, a separate condition type and a separate column in the pricing table had to be reserved for each of the competitors. It was also necessary to model the algorithm involved in the sales price calculation schema using calculation formulas in order to generate the suggested price. If a large number of competitors were involved, the limitations of this process soon became apparent.

In this Release, you can determine as many competitor prices as you like using just one condition type (VKPM, for example) with the sales price calculation schema. A further improvement is the fact that the competitor prices are displayed in a separate dialog box to ensure a clear overview of the data, even where large numbers of competitors are involved. Using the pricing strategies gives you a simpler and more flexible method of defining algorithms for determining suggested prices from competitor prices.

Effects on Existing Data

Effects on Data Transfer

Effects on System Administration

Effects on Customizing

For price entry documents, you have to create number ranges under competitor prices in Customizing for Pricing and define the qualities for the price entry type that are to be valid for the price entry document (Assign number ranges).

In addition to the pricing strategies available in the standard system, you can maintain your own algorithms for determining a suggested price in the sales price calculation function.
