Short text
Material Master: Extension of Material Master Records by Inventory Management
Description
Previously, if Inventory Management extended an existing material master record by specifying a storage location (for example, upon goods receipt), the system did not assign the storage location to the Storage view or MRP view. If you wanted to extend the material master record by including these views, you had to specify the storage location in the transaction Create Material, even though it already existed.
The storage location specified by Inventory Management also appeared in the list of extendable materials (transaction MM50).
As of Release 3.1G, if you have already specified a plant when creating the material from the MRP view, the system automatically assigns the storage location specified by Inventory Management to this view. Likewise, if you have already specified a plant when creating the material from the Storage view, the system automatically assigns the storage location to this view.

Changes in procedure
If Inventory Management has specified a storage location, you can use the transaction Change Material to process the relevant material data in the MRP and Storage views, provided you have already specified a plant when creating the material from these views.
The storage location then no longer appears for this material in the list of extendable materials for the views MRP and Storage.
