Basic and additional coverage for insurance plans

Description

It is now possible to clearly define the difference between basic and additional coverage for an insurance plan.

There is a new section in the insurance plan definition where you can define additional coverage. This is in the form of a set amount with minimum and maximum mulitples thereof.

For example:
Basic coverage = $5000
Additional amount = $1000 x 3

This functionality offers two main advantages:

  • You can define a basic amount that one beneficiary inherits (eg spouse) and allow the employee to choose additional coverage as multiples of a set amount. The multiples of this set amount represent the number of additional beneficiaries (eg children) and the cost of this coverage rises proportionally.
  • If the basic amount is set to zero, and the additional coverage amount set to $1, you can set up a plan where an employee may enter any multiple of this amount. This allows the employee to choose to the precise dollar how much coverage they require.

The change in the insurance plan has naturally had repercussions on the enrollment procedure and the insurance plan infotype. The enrollment procedure now gives you the basic coverage and then allows you select, according to the plan restrictions, a multiple of the additional amount. The insurance plan infotype (P0168) also now includes the units of additional coverage within the plan data section.

This has introduced a large degree of flexibility to the set up of insurance plans.
