Serial Number Management

Description

Stock Information

From Release 4.5A, serial numbers are not only recorded for plant and storage location, but also for:

  • All stock types (for example, unrestricted stock, inspection stock, blocked stock returns, stock in transfer, stock in transit, blocked stock)
  • All special stock (for example, open order stock, project stock, customer and vendor consignment stock)

The following information is now recorded for the serial number for each goods movement:

  • Plant and storage location
  • Batch
  • Movement type
  • Stock type
  • Special stock indicator
  • Sales order number and order item
  • Vendor or customer account number
  • Work breakdown structure element

Serial numbers that were created before 4.5A do not automatically contain the stock information. However they will be added to bit by bit in the course of each serial number transaction.

This stock information is recorded in table EQBS. The system compares this data during each transaction with the data from inventory management. Depending on the settings made in the serial number profile in Customizing, the transaction is either prohibited, allowed, or allowed with a warning if the data does not correspond. After the transaction the serial number is updated with the current stock data from inventory management.

Serial Numbers and Batch Status Management

If batch status management is active and when changing the batch, the batch is posted from unrestricted to restricted stock, the new stock type is set in the serial number master record. When doing this, the system creates an object list per batch status across all document line items (storage locations and special stock).

In the serial number history you see the document with which the batch status was changed, and the system also creates an object list per batch status here.

Serial Numbers in Quality Management

The following functions are new in Quality Management:

  • Copying of serial numbers from a goods movement into the inspection lot
  • Copying of serial numbers from a production order
  • Quantity postings from the usage decision

Executable Programs

This program compares the inventory management stock data with the stock data in the serial number master record. The cumulated serial number stock is compared against each special stock from inventory management.
This program is used to copy the stock check indicator from the serial number profile into the individual serial numbers. The stock check indicator must then be copied if you have changed the indicator in the profile and already performed goods movements with serial numbers.
