Portfolio Management: Various Functions (Enhanced)
Use
The following enhancements to Portfolio Management are available as of SAP Portfolio and Project Management 5.0 SP09:
- Number Generation for Portfolio Management Object IDs
- You can use internal number assignment for the IDs of item and initiative versions only, or for all of the following Portfolio Management objects:
- Bucket
- Item, item version, item template
- Initiative, initiative version, initiative template
- Collection
- Review
- What-if scenario
- Depending on your Customizing settings, the IDs can be generated using one of the following options:
- SAP number assignment functionality with the number range object and number ranges defined by SAP
- SAP number assignment functionality with customer-defined number range objects and/or intervals
- Customer-defined processing logic
- This enables you to use readable or meaningful IDs. The IDs generated by the system can be manually overwritten during portfolio maintenance.
- Portfolio-Type-Dependent User Interface Configuration
- The portfolio-type-dependent user interface configuration can vary according to the authorizations of the users accessing a Portfolio Management object. For example, a particular field can be ready for input for a user with Admin authorization for this object, whereas it is read-only for a user with Write authorization.
- Portfolio-Type-Dependent Field Configuration for Dashboards
- The field configuration of dashboards for Portfolio Management objects can vary according to the portfolio type of the portfolio in which they are called.
- Filtering Item and Initiative Types According to Portfolio Type
- When you create an item or initiative, the item or initiative types available can be filtered in such a way that only those relevant to the current portfolio type are offered for selection.
- Reporting for Selected Items and Initiatives

When launching the reporting cockpit of the Business Context Viewer from the item or initiative dashboard, you can select the items or initiatives for which the report is to be created.
If you do not activate this enhancement, the reporting cockpit will be launched for all the items or initiatives displayed in the dashboard.
- Metrics for Items and Initiatives
- Depending on the item or initiative type, the following metrics are displayed on the Metrics subview of an item or initiative:
- If metrics have been assigned to the item or initiativ type, these metrics are displayed.
- If there are no metrics assigned to the item or initiative type, all global metrics, but no local metrics are displayed.
- If you do not activate this enhancement, both global and local metrics are displayed for item or initiative types without metrics assignment.
- Resources Overview
- In addition to the project name, a column for the project number can be displayed on the Resource Overview screen within Resource Management. This makes it easier for you to identify and open the projects to which a resource is assigned.

- Number Generation for Portfolio Management Object IDs
- To activate this function, carry out the following steps:
- Activate the number assignment for Portfolio Management objects or object versions by making the
corresponding entries in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management
under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing
-> Global Settings -> Override Default Global Settings:

- If you want to use your own number range object or number range intervals:
- Define the number range object or interval in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management ->Global Customizing -> Portfolio-Independent Settings -> Define Number Ranges for Portfolio Management Objects.
- Create a corresponding implementation of method GET_NEXT_NUMBER_FOR_EXTID in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Business Add-Ins and Customer Includes -> BAdI: Maintenance Services for Portfolio Management Objects.
- If you want to use your own processing logic for number generation, create a corresponding implementation of method GET_NEXT_NUMBER_FOR_EXTID in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Business Add-Ins and Customer Includes -> BAdI: Maintenance Services for Portfolio Management Objects.
- If you do not activate this function, the system generates a character key (Universal Unique Identifier) for the Portfolio Management objects on saving.
- Portfolio-Type-Dependent User Interface Configuration
- You can set up portfolio-type dependent field control in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Portfolio-Dependent Settings -> Define Portfolio Types. Make the required settings on the Portfolio Fields Override view. By specifying an authorization activity in the Activity column, you can create multiple entries for one field and define different field attributes depending on the user authorization.
- Portfolio-Type-Dependent Field Configuration for Dashboards
- You can set up portfolio-type dependent field configuration for Portfolio Management dashboards in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Global Field Settings -> Dashboard Settings -> Define Fields for Dashboards.
- Filtering Item and Initiative Types According to Portfolio Type
- To activate this function, make the following entry in Customizing for SAP
Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management ->
Global Customizing -> Global Settings -> Override Default Global Settings:

- In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Portfolio-Dependent Settings -> Define Portfolio Types, you can assign the item and initiative types relevant to individual protfolio types. If you carry out this setting for a portfolio type, only the item or initiative types assigned here will be available within this portfolio type.
