Financial Information about Items and Initiatives (Enhanced)

Use

As of SAP Portfolio and Project Management 6.0, the following new functions are available for determining and evaluating financial information about items and initiatives:

  • Calculation of Financial Key Performance Indicators
The following key performance indicators (KPIs) can be calculated from the financial planning data of items and initiatives: net present value (NPV), return on investment, payback period, internal rate of return, and the expected commercial value, which is now derived from the calculated NPV.
In the Financial Information subview of the item and initiative overview, a new set of fields has been added for the calculated KPIs. In the standard view, they are displayed in addition to the input fields for the manually entered KPIs. You can decide which set of fields you want to use and adjust your custom field configuration accordingly.
  • Financial Summary of Revenues
The Financial Summary in the Financial Information subview of items and initiatives has been enhanced by the following fields: Planned Revenue Total, Actual Revenue Total, Planned Revenue YTD, Actual Revenue YTD. The values in these fields are determined from the financial planning data of the item or initiative in the same way as those of the corresponding cost fields.
  • BI Reporting
The new financial KPI and summary fields have been added to DataSources 0RPM_PORT_ITEM_MANAGEMENT, 0RPM_PORT_ITEM_DER_MANAGEMENT and 0INM_INITIATIVE_MANAGEMENT, which support data extraction for the BI analysis scenarios Cost Analysis and Portfolio Item Management.
Note, however, that only the DataSources are enhanced by SAP. Customers who wish to analyze the new fields in the Business Warehouse need to enhance the corresponding BI Content.
If you replicate the enhanced DataSources to your BW system, the corresponding transformation rules need to be activated again in the BW system.
  • BCV Reporting
The new financial KPI and summary fields can be evaluated using the BCV query views 1RPM_QV_INIT_ECV_FIN_KPI, 1RPM_QV_ITEMS_ECV_FIN_KPI and 1RPM_WI_ITEMS_ECV_FIN_KPI. These query views contain an expected commercial value (ECV) chart which is based on the calculated KPIs. You can use them to adjust your BCV dashboards as required. In the standard BCV dashboards for the item and initiative dashboards, ECV charts for both, the calculated and the manually entered KPIs have been included.

Effects on Existing Data

Effects on Data Transfer

Effects on System Administration

Effects on Customizing

The automatic calculation of the net present value and the related KPIs is active in the standard system. You can deactivate it by making the following entry in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Global Settings -> Override Default Global Settings:

Area Setting Description Value
0007 0042 Activate Automatic Calculation of Net Present Value ' ' (No)

If you want to use the automatic calculation of the net present value (NPV), you need to make the following Customizing settings:

  • In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Portfolio-Independent Settings -> Define Financial and Capacity Views, check the assignment of amount types to financial planning views. Use the new amount types Planned Revenue and Actual Revenue to identify views used for calculating revenues.
This setting is relevant for both, the financial summary and NPV calculation.
  • In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Portfolio-Dependent Settings -> Define Financial Capacity Settings for Portfolio Types, check the financial views assigned to your portfolio types and specify whether they are relevant for NPV calculation on item or initiative level.
  • In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Global Settings -> Define Reference Interest Rates, check the standard reference interest rate for NPV calculation.
Define your own reference interest rate as required, and activate it by making the following entry in Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Global Settings -> Override Default Global Settings:
Area Setting Description Value
0007 0043 Reference Interest Rate for Calculation of Net Present Value

  • In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Global Settings -> Define Values for Reference Interest Rates, define the interest rates to be used for NPV calculation.
  • If you want to use your own logic for calculating the net present value and the related KPIs, implement the method CALCULATE_KPI in SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Business Add-Ins and Customer Includes -> BAdI: Calculation of Portfolio Item Alerts.

In Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management under Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Global Field Settings -> Check SAP Field Configuration and Define Custom Field Configuration, you can adjust the field configuration of the Financial Information subview of items and initiatives so as to display only one set of KPIs.
