LOG_PP_WIP_BATCH: Business Function Work In Process Batch (New)

Use

As of SAP ECC 6.0, Enterprise Extension SAP_APPL, Enhancement Package 4 (SAP_APPL 604), the business function Work-in-Process (WIP) Batch is available.

With this batch, you can describe a product over the course of its manufacture (for example, after individual worksteps). In addition, you establish the link between the input batch and the goods receipt batch and thus ensure comprehensive batch tracing.

You can use WIP batches in production and process orders.

Create WIP Batches

WIP batch management is integrated in the following confirmation transactions:

  • For production orders under Production → Shop Floor Control → Confirmation → Enter → For Operation → Time Ticket
  • For process orders under Production - Process → Process Order → Confirmation → Enter for Phase → Time Ticket

Here you can generate and process WIP batches for production or process orders.

Prerequisites

The following preconditions must be satisfied for WIP batch management:

  • You must activate the WIP batch functionality in Customizing.
  • You must also create a confirmation profile, in which you include the WIP batches area with the necessary fields, in Customizing for Shop Floor Control. You must either define the profile as a standard profile or assign it to the users with the aid of the user parameter CORUPROF.

A WIP batch is always automatically assigned to a production or process order. On completion of your production, you can then bequeath the characteristics of the WIP batches generated to new goods receipt batches.

Activate Inventory Management

During the production process, you can specify that a goods receipt is posted for WIP batches. To do so, you must set the Post Goods Receipt for WIP Batch indicator on the Realization tab page in Customizing for Production under Shop Floor Control → Master Data → Order → Define Order-Type-Dependent Parameters. The goods receipt for a WIP batch is posted upon completion of a work operation. In the process, previous postings are reversed by the system in the background and on a document-neutral basis so that the number of WIP batches does not increase from one operation to the next.

Archiving of WIP batch where-used records

When you archive a production or process order, deletion flags are also set for the WIP batch where-used records. You can likewise archive the WIP batch where-used records. The archiving object PP_WIPCHVW is available for WIP batch where-used records.

Effects on Existing Data

An additional field Batch Type is displayed in the batch master record. This field is not ready to accept input. The batch type determines whether the batch is a finished product for a material or a WIP batch that describes the material during the individual processing steps in the production order. The value WIP Batch is set by the system when the batch is confirmed as a WIP batch.

If you use the Process Batch functionality of the industry solution Mill Products (IS-MP) and wish to use the WIP batch as of this Release, you must run the report R_CONVERT_WIPBATCH.

Furthermore, you must then run the report R_SET_BATCHTYPE to include the Batch Type field in the batch master record.

The control key in the routing has been enhanced through the addition of the WIP Batch field. Here you can specify whether WIP batches are necessary, allowed, or not allowed for an operation.

Effects on Data Transfer

Effects on System Administration

Effects on Customizing

Activate the functionality in Customizing under Logistics General → Batch Management → WIP Batches → Activate WIP Batch.

Create a confirmation profile in Customizing for Shop Floor Control under Operations -> Confirmation -> Single-Screen Entry -> Define Single-Screen Entry.

Further Information

For more information on WIP batches, refer to the SAP Library under SAP ERP Central Component → Logistics → Logistics General → Batch Management → WIP Batches.
