Automatic Kanban Calculation (Enhanced)

Use

As of SAP Enhancement Package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 (SAP_APPL 605), business function Kanban Enhancements for Lean Manufacturing, you can use the enhanced automatic kanban calculation.

The following individual functions are available:

  • Consideration of further requirement types
Previously, the system could only take account of the dependent requirements that were assigned to a PSA in the kanban calculation. As of EHP5, you can specify which further types of requirement are to be taken into account. The new transaction Consideration of Requirement Types(PKDIS) is available for this purpose in the Kanban menu under Kanban Calculation --> Consideration of Requirement Types. You can choose from the following requirement types:
  • Planned independent requirements

  • Customer requirements

  • Stock transfer requirements

  • Non-assigned dependent requirements

Furthermore, you can stipulate a quota arrangement for the assignment of the requirements to the various PSAs.
  • New parameters for automatic kanban calculation
As of EHP5, a series of new parameters is available for the detailed calculation of the necessary number of kanbans or kanban quantities. You can specify these parameters in addition to the replenishment lead time. For example, you can specify delivery and requirement fluctuations. In the kanban calculation, the system can then take these fluctuations into account and make provision for adequate buffers for them.
Furthermore, the option of modelling different working times at the supply and demand sources in the system. From this data, the kanban calculation can then calculate a calendar buffer to compensate for the missing material quantity if, for example, the supply source does not work on a day on which the demand source (consumer) does work.
You can specify the new parameters in the calculation profile, in the production supply area (PSA), and in the control cycle.
  • Creation of a change proposal
The initial screen of the transaction Create Change Proposal (PK07) has been enhanced through the addition of the field Ignore Days Without Requirements.
  • Enhanced calculation of the necessary control cycle size
The system calculates the necessary number of kanbans or the kanban quantity for each individual parameter you specified.
  • Check result of kanban calculation
The new transaction PK08N is now available to check the calculated proposals. You can now display the calculated number of kanbans or the necessary kanban quantity for each parameter that you have set. If you are using the capacity-based kanban calculation for in-house production, the capacity utilization of the planning work center is also displayed. See also: LOG_PP_LMAN_02: Capacity-Based Kanban Calculation in the Case of In-House Production (New)
  • Improved representation of the calculation results
For EHP5, the graphical representation of the calculation results has also been improved. The graphic now consists of two parts:
  • The upper part of the screen shows the cumulative and smoothed requirements for the selected material for each workday.

  • The lower part of the screen shows you the number of kanban containers or the kanban quantity. A different color is used for each proportion attributable to the various parameters. This enables you to see the exact reason for the quantity calculated.

In addition, a tabular representation has been developed. This shows the calculated values for each day as an alternative to the graphical representation. You can switch backwards and forwards between the graphical and tabular displays at will.
You can invoke the graphical and tabular displays directly from within control cycle maintenance (transaction PKMC) from within the transaction Check Result of Kanban Calculation(PK08N).

Effects on Existing Data

The production supply area (PSA) has been extended through the addition of the following new parameters for the kanban calculation:

  • Factory calendar of the consumer (demand source)
  • Grouping for shift definitions and sequences of the consumer
  • Shift sequence of the consumer

The control cycle has been extended through the addition of the following new parameters on the Kanban Calculation tab page:

  • The replenishment lead time can now be specified in detail:

Effects on Data Transfer

Effects on System Administration

Effects on Customizing

The Customizing activity Define Calculation Profiles has been enhanced by the following new parameters:

  • Factory calendar of the consumer (demand source)
  • Grouping for shift definition and sequences of the consumer
  • Shift sequence of the consumer
