LOG_PP_LMAN_02: Release of Kanban Containers (New)

Use

As of SAP Enhancement Package 5 for SAP ERP 6.0 (SAP_APPL 605), business function Kanban Enhancements for Lean Manufacturing, you can use the new process for releasing kanban containers.

Previously, all kanban containers added to the control cycle at the time of an adjustment to the latter were never locked. They were thus immediately available for production even though they may not yet have physically existed or been labeled. In addition, kanban cards must be printed before the containers can be released to production at all.

As of this enhancement package, you can use the new process for releasing kanban containers. This process facilitates the controlled release of kanban containers following adjustment to a control cycle. You do not unlock the new containers until you have prepared them for production.

The following individual functions are available:

  • Lock new kanbans
You can now make the basic decision as to how the system is to proceed if the number of kanban containers in a control cycle needs to be increased:
  • Whether these kanban containers are to be available immediately, or

  • Whether the containers are initially to be locked

Locking the kanban containers affords the advantage that you have enough time to label the new containers and print the kanban cards.
You can use the Lock New Kanbans field in the Customizing activity Define Strategies for Adopting Calculation Proposals to specify how the system is to proceed.
  • Unlock kanban containers
You can use the new function Unlock Kanbans (transaction PK09) to select and unlock specific kanbans.
You can also use this transaction to lock specific kanban containers.
  • Automatically unlock kanbans after printing
You can use this function to automatically unlock the kanban containers after the kanban cards have been printed. This function is offered in the transactions Unlock Kanbans (PK09) and Collective Printout (PK17), and also within the print function of control cycle maintenance. For the system to unlock the kanbans, you must set the new Unlock Kanbans Automatically After Printout indicator.

The kanban menu has been enhanced through the addition of the transaction Unlock Kanbans:

Kanban --> Control Cycle --> Kanban Calculation --> Unlock Kanbans

The Customizing activity Define Strategies for Adopting Calculation Proposals has been enhanced through the addition of the Lock New Kanbans field.
