BOMs: Explosion Types for a BOM Item

Description

If you process BOM items with reference to change numbers and shift the valid-from date (change header or alternative date), the sequence of validity periods for the BOM item may change.

The changed sequence of validity periods can lead to the following processing situations:

  • "Negative validity period": the valid-to date is before the valid-from date.
  • Two validity periods overlap. In the overlap period, there are two versions of an item with two different change numbers.
Previously, the system found both versions of the item. The versions were listed with the same item number and the different change numbers. Now you have the option of selecting one of the versions.

In the customizing functions for BOMs, step "Define modification parameters", use the BOM item explosion type field to define which item version is to be listed.

You can make the following entries:

  • Blank: no additional interpretation
The system finds both versions of the item. The versions are listed with the same item number and different change numbers.
  • Value 1: latest version created
If two item versions are valid simultaneously, the system selects the item that was created second.
  • Value 2: latest version in time
The versions are sorted according to valid-from date.
