Document management: Assigning a revision level to a document

Description

As of release 3.0, you can assign a revision level to specific change statuses of a document.

Revision level assignment for documents is controlled automatically via the document type. In the "Define document types" step, the Document with revision levels indicator determines that a revision level is automatically assigned to a document the first time the document is released with reference to a change number.

If you want to process revision levels, choose menu option Environment, function Revision levels.

A revision level can only be assigned to a document when the document info record is being processed. You cannot assign a revision level to a document with engineering change management functions. Using ECM functions, you can only change and display revision levels.

Before you can assign a revision level to a specific change number for a document, the following must apply to the change master record:

  • The following indicators must be set for the object type "document": Object type active for change number and Management record required for each object.
  • An object management record must exist for the document.
You can either create an object management record for the document manually, or set the Indicator: Object management record generated for the object type "document" in the change master record. In the latter case, the system creates the object management record automatically.
