Bills of material: changes in BOM reporting

Description

For Release 3.0, the screen layout and the handling of the BOM reporting functions have been changed.

  1. The initial screens of all BOM reporting functions have been changed.
  • Previously, you entered the selection criteria for BOM explosion and where-used lists in the following three dialog boxes: Define view, Extend view, Restrict view. Now you enter all selection criteria on one screen, which is subdivided into the above data groups.
  • In addition, you can now change the list format as required. For this purpose, the screen View has been expanded to include the data group Format profile.
In this group, you maintain the following two profiles:
  • The list profile, which contains information on the formatting of list displays.

  • The print profile, which contains information on the formatting of print lists.

Each profile is allocated to a list identification, whose maximum blocks contain all the fields that can possibly appear on the list. The display blocks assigned contain all the formatting information for the displayed list and the print list.
Note:
To date, each BOM explosion or where-used list is set up according to a standard profile, which is allocated to a list ID.
  1. As for the where-used list, the following functions have changed:
  • You can now create a bill of material with reference to an equipment, a functional location, a document info record, or a standard object. When generating the where-used list for a material or document, you can limit the search to particular BOM categories where the material or document is contained by selecting the BOM cateogories in the data group .
In the where-used list for classes, the data group Used in is not displayed because to date class items can only exist in material BOMs.
If the system finds that a material or document is used in several BOM categories, it divides up the where-used list per BOM category, starting each BOM category on a separate page.
Exception messages are displayed at the bottom of the list.
Note:
In a where-used list for a material, the default BOM category is "material BOM", and in a where-used list for a document, the default is "document structure".
Exception messages are displayed on a separate page after the last where-used path.
  • The following changes have been made to the field Plant) on the View screen:
Entry Meaning
Blank no plant (group BOM)
* all plants

If, for example, you want to display the where-used list of a material across all plants, you must enter the special character * in the field plant on the screen view.
  1. The following functions for the where-used list are new:
  • Documentation (F1 help) is now available for all list fields.
  • The where-used list for a material can now also be generated over several levels. If you select the material BOM as the only BOM category in the data group Used in, the indicator: multi-level is displayed on the screen View in the data group Extend view. Use this indicator to determine whether the where-used list is to be generated over one or all BOM levels.
If you select "multi-level" and the system finds occurrences of the material at several BOM levels, the explosion level is displayed in column Lv).
The end of a where-used path is indicated by a separator line.
Example: Where-used list for material A
Material A is contained in the bill of material of material B. This bill of material is in turn item B of the bill of material for material C.
The following where-used path for material A results:
Explosion level Material
1 B
2 C
