Bills of Material: Changes in Customizing

Description

With Release 3.0, the following new functions are available in Customizing:

  1. Define explosion types
With this function, you control the explosion of the BOM item for determining dependent requirements. You enter the explosion type for the material components of a material BOM under the general item data.
The explosion type considers the following special procurement types for the material, which are maintained in the material master record under the basic data for MRP (Detail Screen: Materials Planning 1):
  • Phantom assembly

  • Phantom in planning

  • Direct production (collective order)

In the standard version of the R/3 System, dependent requirements are not created for materials that have one of these special procurement keys.
However, you can define for the explosion type that dependent requirements are also created for these assemblies.
In addition, you can define for the explosion type whether the item is relevant for long-term planning, and how dependent requirements are to be shown.
  • Switch off long-term planning for an item

Long-term planning allows you to simultenously carry out simulated requirements planning over all low-level codes while running operative requirements planning. However, in the case of large bills of materials, long-term planning puts a heavy workload on the system. You therefore have the option of running long-term planning for particular low-level codes only.
Using this indicator, you can exclude individual items from long-term planning.
  • Dependent requirements indicators for individual and collective requirements

  • With the indicator for individual requirements, you determine that individual customer requirements planning is allowed for the dependent requirements of the material. For the superior low-level code, the requirement quantities of the material are shown individually.
With the indicator for collective requirements, you determine that the system can add up the requirement quantities for the dependent material concerned.
  1. Item data from related applications
Until now, you could maintain item data from related applications in the respective application. You can now also maintain BOMs centrally.
You can define the following settings:
  • Distribution key

With this function, you allocate a distribution function as well as a distribution type to a distribution key.
  • Define relevancy to sales

With this function, you define indicators with which you can characterize a BOM item (material component) as relevant to sales in the bill of material. In addition, you define the BOM item usage.
  • Define relevancy to costing

With this function, you define keys with which you can characterize a BOM item (material component) as relevant to costing in the bill of material.
  1. User-specific default values
With this function, you can set default values for individual users who work with BOMs.
You can also store default values for all users of the BOM transactions in one entry. To do this, enter the defined default values for the user DUMMY.
When the user (Miller, for example) starts a BOM transaction, the system first checks whether default values are stored for user "Miller". If not, the default values are copied from user DUMMY.
