Bills of material: Mass change

Description

As from Release 3.0, you can carry out mass changes for BOM components. The following objects can be replaced through mass change in bills of material provided certain requirements are met:

  • Material
The material type, the base unit of measure, and the unit of issue must be identical for both the old and the new material.
  • Document
Both documents must be of the same document type.
  • Classes
Both classes must be of the same class type.

In addition to the data identifying the old and the new object, you also can enter the following data on the initial screen:

  • Quantity factor
The required quantity of the old BOM component is multiplied by this factor to calculate the required quantity of the new BOM component.
  • Selection criteria for the item
In the overview, you see only those bills of material which contain the object as an item, together with the item data entered.
If you want to replace, for example, a material or class, you can restrict the selection to a particular item category.
In addition, you can select by the valid-from date of a change number. This applies to all change objects. In this case, the overview shows all the bills of material in which the object is contained as an item as from the valid-from date entered.
  • Selection criteria for the bill of material
In the overview, you see only those bills of material whose data is identical with the selection criteria (plant, usage, laboratory/office).

When you have confirmed the selection criteria, the system checks in which BOM categories (such as material BOM, document structure) the object is used.
If the object is used in various BOM categories, you can choose the BOM categories you require on a separate screen.

  • You obtain a list of all the bills of material that meet the selection criteria entered.
  • An indicator shows you for each bill of material whether it is assigned to several plants and whether it is a multiple bill of material. By pressing the appropriate pushbuttons, you can display all plants allocated as well as all alternatives.
  • On the following screens, you can choose the bills of material in which you want to replace the object:
  • Selected BOMs: Overview

If the selected bill of material is a multiple bill of material, the material is replaced in all alternatives.
  • Alternatives: Overview

The material is only replaced in the selected alternatives.
From the Edit menu, then choose function Replace.

The selected bills of material are automatically changed by the system. A log informs you of the activities the system has performed.

  • If the bill of material has been changed successfully, you find an appropriate entry in the log.
  • Otherwise, a system message informs you on which bill of material has not been changed (for example, because the bill of material was being edited by another user and whose therefore blocked).
  • In addition, the log contains the name of a batch input session. In this session, a series of transactions for changing bills of material are stored (such as CS02 "Change Material BOM" or CS05 "Change BOM Group"). A program supplies the session with the BOM data which has not been changed correctly.
You can process this session at a later date in the online system. This is when the date base will be updated.
  • To edit a session, choose System -> Services -> Batch input -> Edit.
You see the initial screen from which you can display all sessions by pressing the pushbutton Overview. From the overview, select the session you wish to edit.
  • When you process the session, the system automatically carries out the transactions contained in the session and supplies the screens with the required data.
