Bills of Material: New Functions for Item Maintenance

Description

On the Detail screen: General data, you can maintain the following new data in the General data dataset:

  1. Indicator: Co-product
You characterize a material as a co-product if it results in a complementary process in conjunction with other materials.
You can only characterize the item as a co-product if
  • the indicator: Material can be a co-product is entered in the material master record (view materials planning 2).

  • you enter the item as a stock item.

You enter the quantity with a negative value (for example, 6-).
  1. Alternative item group
The related alternative items of a bill of material are grouped together under a common key (alternative item group).
If you enter an alternative item group, the following data is maintained in a dialog box: ranking order, strategy, usage probability.
The alternative material components are planned by materials planning according to usage probability.
The planned withdrawal is made by means of reservation lists which are created according to the ranking order and the strategy for the alternative items.
  1. Discontinuation data
This function allows you to mark a discontinued item for a particular bill of material and define one or several follow-up item(s). The follow-up item entered here overrides the one from the material master record (MRP data).
For more information on item discontinuation in bills of material, see the Release info .
  1. Special procurement
If the bill of material is allocated to one plant only, the system determines the special procurement type from the fields Procurement type and Special procurement in the material master (detail screen: Requirements planning 1).
For the BOM item, only the values which are relevant for the explosion types are displayed:
  • Phantom assembly

  • Dummy in planning

  • Direct production (collective order)

This BOM item is exploded (with special procurement) in accordance with the explosion type.
  1. Define explosion type
The explosion of the item (for example, for calculating dependent requirements) is controlled by this key.
The item is exploded if
  • no explosion type is entered for the BOM item

  • an explosion type is entered for which an indicator that deactivates explosion for the determined special procurement type is not set in Customizing.

For more information on explosion types, please refer to the Release info Changes in Customizing".

For the master recipes of a production process (for example, production of batches in one manufacturing task), the following new functions are available:

  1. Item category Phantom material
In master recipes, you enter a material via this item category, which only appears temporarily in a technical process.
For a phantom material, you have to create a material master with the material type INTR. For this material type, you have to maintain, for example, the following views: engineering, classification, quality management.
  1. Classification
You call this function from the Extras menu.
You can only classify BOM items which have the item category Stock item.
  • You allocate the material component to a class which was created with reference to the class type 022 - Batches.

  • In classes of class type 022, you can classify different object types, for example, batches, materials, conditions, BOM items. For these object types, a hierarchical structure has been set up in the Implementation Guide. It is therefore possible that objects pass on their classification data to dependent objects.
In class type 022, the materials pass on their classification data to their dependent batches and BOM items.
