Bills of Material: Item Groups and Item Variants

Description

As of Release 4.0A, you can group together items that are logically related. For example, you can group together the different change statuses of an item as one unit.

You use the following data to form this logical unit:

• Item group

Character string for grouping together items in a BOM

• Item variant

Character string for identifying an item within an item group

The item variant defines how the item is interpreted in the item group:

• Same item variant in an item group

Several change statuses of an item are one unit (see example).

When you explode the BOM, you see one change status of the item, according to the validity period (for example, the valid-from date).

• Different item variants in an item group

Each item variant is read separately. The items are not a unit.

Different item variants within an item group are currently for information only.
