Short text

Discontinuation of a Material After Discontinuation of the Stock

Description

For materials managed in stock, discontinued parts can either be activated by

  • simple discontinuation (direct successor) or
  • parallel discontinuation (follow-up group)

As a result, it is possible to automatically redirect the requirements of a material - according to used up warehouse stock - to a direct follow-up material or follow-up group.

The control in the case of a simple discontinuation is carried out by specifying a direct follow-up material with an activation date in the material master record. The units of measure of the materials must be the same.

If a group of materials instead of one material is to be replaced by several materials, then the main material in the group of materials to be discontinued must be indicated as such in the master record with an activation date. This also applies similarly to the components that are discontinued in parallel to this main material. In the bill of material, the relationship between the discontinued and follow-up materials must be indicated by means of continuation/discontinuation group. This also determines the sorting when processing and in the lists. A change in the quantity of the main material in the group of parts to be discontinued proportionally influences the parallel and follow-up materials, that is, alternative units of measure are allowed.

Further information on the new functions can be found in the manuals 'PP - Production Orders' and 'Project System'.
