Short text
KANBAN: Event-Driven KANBAN
Description
In event-driven KANBAN, material provision is not triggered until a predefined event occurs.
In the classic KANBAN production control, a predefined number of continually circulating kanbans with a predefined kanban quantity control the material flow. In event-driven KANBAN no number of kanbans or kanban quantity is predefined. Instead, procurement is always made when required for the quantity currently required. This process is particularly useful when the requirements of a particular material are irregular, but you still want to use the advantages of the KANBAN procedure to carry out replenishment on a simplified basis.
In event-driven KANBAN, a kanban is created in the system for every requested quantity which is subsequently deleted again on completion of the replenishment. The event-driven kanban is created using a separate function. The requested quantity is recorded in this function. You can make the following additional restrictions in the control cycle:
- You can round up the requested quantity by specifying a rounding quantity.
- You can define a fixed kanban quantity by specifying a fixed quantity. Then the total quantity requested is divided by the fixed quantity.
