Summarized JIT Call

Description

In Release 4.5A, you can take quantities that are due for delivery from the production system and transmit them to the vendor in the form of a summarized JIT call. Delivery of a summarized JIT call can be specified to the hour and minute, and can take place several times a day. A summarized JIT call can also contain an unloading point for the materials. The summarized JIT call also gives you the option of 'summarizing' several material requirements into one JIT call.

You do not create summarized JIT calls in the MRP run, but in production.

Scheduling agreement schedule lines are initially created in the MRP run and used as a forecast to be transmitted to the vendor as forecast or JIT delivery schedules, which are not relevant for delivery.

As soon as the materials are actually required in production, you set a kanban to empty, thereby creating a delivery-relevant summarized JIT call, or new item for an existing summarized JIT call. You can trigger a summarized JIT call either via classic or event-driven KANBAN.

Prerequisites

  • You must have created a material. Your material must be assigned to a storage location.
  • You must have created a vendor and maintained the appropriate partner roles (partner role VN is in the system as standard).
  • You must have created a scheduling agreement for your material and vendor, and then created a schedule line in the agreement.
You must create a schedule line even if you are not going to transmit it to the vendor: it enables you to post goods receipt later.
You must have copied the appropriate partner roles for the vendor into the scheduling agreement.
The scheduling agreement must refer to the same storage location as your material.
  • If you want to summarize requirements by delivery date, you must have defined a time definition in Customizing for KANBAN, which you then store in the JIT call profile. You must have defined a shift sequence for the to-the-minute summary; for the to-the-day summary, you must have defined a PPC planning calendar.
  • You must have defined an appropriate JIT call profile in Customizing for KANBAN. It should contain the following entries:
  • JIT call type 'Summarized JIT call'.

  • A partner role. You need the partner role to summarize requirements/JIT calls and to transmit messages.

  • You define the summary by plant or by plant and unloading point, as required (via Summary).

  • If you summarize by delivery date, you also enter a time definition.

  • In Customizing for KANBAN, you must have created a replenishment strategy for the creation of summarized JIT calls (appropriate control type).
  • In the KANBAN application, you must have created a supply area for the KANBAN storage location mentioned above.
You must have defined an unloading point in this supply area, if required.
  • You must have created a control cycle for your supply area and your material, which contains the previously defined replenishment strategy and JIT call profile (defined on tabstrip Process flow control).

Process flow

  1. You set a kanban to empty or create a new event-driven kanban.
  2. The system either creates a new summarized JIT call or appends the requirement as an item in an existing one.
  3. If a new summarized JIT call is created, the system accesses message determination.
The system determines the appropriate message using your Customizing settings for Message determination and your condition records.
  1. You transmit the message to the vendor.
You can dispatch the message at various points in time:
  • You transmit the summarized JIT call directly on creation. This is only possible if a new summarized JIT call is created when the kanban is set to empty.

  • You set regular output runs that determine which summarized JIT calls you have to transmit.

  • You check yourself, which summarized JIT calls you have to transmit.

In the last two options, you use selection criteria to create a list of messages. You can take the desired message out of the list and transmit it to the vendor.
You set the transmission time-spot in Cutomizing when creating a message type, under Default values in the field Time.
