New Features in Long-Term Planning

Description

As of Release 4.5 A, the following new or extended functions are available:

  • Single-item, multi-level planning in simulation mode
  • Extended functions for copying long-term planning results to operative planning
  • Gross requirements planning
  • Use of an independent long-term planning BOM
  • Integration of the planning table from repetitive manufacturing in long-term planning

These functions are described below in detail:

Single-Item, Multi-Level Planning in Simulation Mode

As of Release 4.5A, this type of planning is also available for long-term planning. This planning is particularly useful for short-term simulation.

With single-item, multi-level planning in simulation mode, it is possible to carry out planning in the main memory and to check and adapt the planning results there. Search and evaluation functions for this data should support you in quickly recognizing and resolving problem situations.

Problem situations for subordinate assemblies or components are displayed at finished product level and can be resolved immediately. To relieve the database, changes are not saved until the MRP controller is satisfied with the planning result for all materials of a BOM structure.

With large BOM structures, simulative planning is a tool used to quickly carry out multi-level planning and to be able to recognise problems early on and resolve them.

The following functions are available in simulation mode:

  • All materials of a multi-level BOM structure are planned from top to bottom.
  • All changes are kept in the main memory; the results are not written to the database until you have saved.
  • With problems, such as, for example, dates in the past, an exception message in the planned order of the superior materials and the delay is displayed. The number of days is displayed which a planned order is delayed due to problem situations with subordinate assemblies or components.
  • Evaluation functions, such as, for example, order report and pegged requirements, support you when you quickly want to find a planned order that has caused the delay or the exception message.
  • You can change the planned orders and repeat planning for the lower BOM level, in order to resolve problem situations.

Copying Long-Term Planning Results to Operative Planning

When copying the planning results to operative planning, you can set that purchase requisitions and delivery schedules (schedule lines) instead of planned orders are to be created for materials procured externally during the copying process.

You do this by entering the appropriate indicator in the initial screen of interactive planning (in MRP), in the Create pur.req. and Schedule lines fields.

After the results have been copied, the firmed planned orders, purchase requisitions and delivery schedules (schedule lines) are included in the display of the planning results. You complete the copying process to operative planning by saving the planning results.

If the purchase requisitions and delivery schedules (schedule lines) were not firmed in operative planning, they are deleted after copying the planning results from long-term planning. The purchase requisitions and delivery schedules (schedule lines) that were created during the copying process are used in operative planning.

If the purchase requisitions and delivery schedules (schedule lines) are in operative planning are firmed, they remain unaffected even after copying the planning results. You can avoid having double purchase requisitions and delivery schedules (schedule lines) if you have previously set in the planning scenario that all firmed receipts in long-term planning are to be taken into account.

Gross Requirements PLanning in Long-Term Planning

You can carry out gross requirements planning in long-term planning for cost evaluation and budgeting purposes. With this procedure, you plan just the pure requirements quantities without taking available stock, material-specific lot sizes or scrap into account.

You create an individual planning scenario for gross requirements planning. If you have selected gross long-term planning in the initial screen when creating a planning scenario, the system automatically suggests the suitable control parameters.

Carrying Out MRP with an Independent LTP BOM

BOM explosion in the planning run works using the same master data and Customizing settings in long-term planning as it does for operative MRP. However, as of Release 4.5A, it is possible to create an independent BOM for long-term planning and carry out long-term planning with this BOM. This has the advantage that you can simulate planned changes to BOMs in advance. Long-term planning is thus able to determine the effects of the use of another assembly or raw material on the available capacity and purchasing budget in advance.

You carry out the necessary activities for defining the selection ID in Customizing for Bill of Material.

You then create a BOM with the BOM usage for "long-term planning".

In the planning scenario, you enter the sel ID in the field BOM selection ID that you created for long-term planning.

When selecting the BOM in the long-term planning run, the system initially searches for the BOM with the BOM usage for long-term planning using the sel ID for long-term planning. The system determines the correct BOM using the indicator for selection of alternative BOM in the material master.

Integration of the Planning Table of Repetitive Manufacturing

If you use the planning table of repetitive manuafcturing in operative planning, you can now also use the planning table in long-term planning to carry out simulative planning within a planning scenario.

The planning table in long-term planning uses the same settings as the operative planning table. You only have to create a planning scenario and enter this in the initial screen of the planning table.

You can find the planning table in the long-term planning menu, under Long-term planning --> Planning table.
