Evaluation Lists: Selection Rule and Display Filter Usable

Scope of Functions

MRP lists and stock/requirements lists can be several screens long. This makes them very complex, and slows down the setup of the lists on the screen. In addition, the lists usually contain large amounts of information, which you do not need at every point in time.

Up to now, you could not influence the display of these lists. Only one business view, which evaluated the existing MRP elements, was displayed. The structure of the list was fixed.

Now you can work with selection rules to select (or import) the data, and with display filters for the display of the data.

Selection rule (only the stock/requirements list)

A selection rule defines an independent business view of information in the stock/requirements list (and also in the planning table for Repetitive Manufacturing).

In a selection rule, you define:

  • which MRP elements are to be selected to setup the respective list, and whether they are to be used to calculate the quantity available and the ranges or coverage, or just be displayed.
Application examples:
  • The quantities available for make-to-stock production or for pre-planning stratagies are useful not only based on independent requirements, but also based on sales orders that are received. This is why independent requirements should be displayed but not change the quantity available.

  • For consumption-based materials or bulk materials, reservations or dependent requirements should be displayed and, if applicable, included in the calculation (not possible in the standard setting).

  • Only consumption, which means requirements and stocks, should be displayed.

  • Only replenishment elements, which means receipts, should be displayed.

  • which elements are used to calculate the unrestricted-use stock (for example, blocked stock or stock in transfer)
  • whether schedule lines in the display are to be replaced by the more current delivery schedules - forecast delivery schedule and JIT delivery schedule.

The selection logic when you use the selection rule in the stock/requirements list and in the planning table for repetitive manufacturing is as follows:

  • Only the MRP elements that are selected in the selection rule are displayed.
  • Of the MRP elements displayed, only those flagged as being relevant for availability in the selection rule are used to calculate the quantity available and the ranges of coverage.
  • Only the stocks that are defined in the selection rule are used to calculate the stocks available.

System performance is improved as only the selected MRP elements need to be selected (or imported) to set up the lists.

Display filter

A display filter reduces the display of information in the stock/requirements list and the MRP list to a particular, clear selection. The calculation of the quantity available and the ranges of coverage is not influenced by display filters, in contrast to selection rules.

In a display filter, you define:

  • which MRP elements are to be displayed
Application examples:
  • The production scheduler in production needs to have an overview of the procurement proposals with in-house production (production orders, process orders, maintenance orders, dependent reservations plus planned orders).

  • An MRP controller wants to display only the sales orders or only the purchase orders.

  • which MRP segments are to be displayed (for example, only the gross segment, or only the project segment)
  • which time period is to be displayed (display horizon)
You define this time period in Customizing on a company-specific basis, or on a user-specific basis directly in the transaction, if allowed in Customizing.

The display logic when you use display filters in the stock/requirements list and the MRP list is as follows:

  • MRP elements are displayed only in the time period that is defined in the display filter.
  • MRP elements in this time period are only displayed for the segments that are selected in the display filter.
  • Within these segments, only the MRP elements that are selected in the display filter are displayed.

Effects on Customizing

You define selection rules and display filters in Customizing for MRP, under Define seleciton rules or Define display filter. This is also valid for Customizing for Consumption-Based Planning.

SAP provides a number of predefined selection rules and display filters from the SAP name range.
