New Developments in the Planning Table for Release 4.0

Description

In Repetitive Manufacturing, the master plan is represented by the planning table. The planning table is the basis of all planning activities in Repetitive Manufacturing.

In a repetitive manufacturing environment, planning and control is usually carried out on a period and quantity basis. The layout of the planning table has been designed to support this requirement and is also based on periods to provide a very clear, easy-to-interpret overview of materials and production lines.

From Release 4.0, you can also use the planning table in MRP as an additional tool for evaluating and planning planned orders and production orders even if no run schedule header has been created for these materials. Only a production version is required for these materials.

The planning table is the planner’s/MRP controller’s most important tool for planning the production quantities. At a glance, you can check the production quantities, monitor the available capacity of the production lines and check up on the availability situation of the products produced on each line. The flexible strategies available for automatically dispatching quantities provide even more support for creating a realistic master plan balanced with capacity on hand.

As planning is often carried out on a shift basis, functions are also available in the planning table for distributing production quantities over shifts.

In Release 4.0, the initial screen for accessing the planning table as well as the layout and structure of the planning table have been changed considerably:

  • Instead of the various views, you can now display several lines and materials at the same time. To guarantee a clear and easy-to-read table despite the quantity of information displayed, you have the option of displaying and hiding the available information as required.
  • The layout of the planning table depends on your selections. The system displays data for all the materials and lines that correspond to your selections. Therefore, you can check the capacity data of several lines. The following new selection options are available:
  • Selection by production versions instead of by run schedule headers.

  • Selection by MRP controller or class.

  • Detailed selection by lines and materials (when starting and during the transaction).

  • Search and sort functions in the material overview enable you to find critical situations quickly and provide the option of accessing the planning table for exceptional situations.
  • You define the settings for scheduling and which scheduling strategy is to be used in Customizing for Repetitive Manufacturing. You can also change these settings in the initial screen of the planning table.
  • Scheduling is carried out with reference to the planning operation (the planning operation is the operation with the scheduling work center - this is usually the production line). This means that the system schedules the planning operation first and then it schedules the other operations that lie either before or after the planning operation.
  • Operations that lie before the planning operation are scheduled backwards and operations that lie after the planning operations are scheduled forwards. The dates of the planning operations are displayed separately in the planning table.
  • A distributed quantity display based on the production dates is also available. This means that you can now also use shift-based planning where you can distribute the production quantities among the individual shifts.
  • You can reassign production quantities from one production line to another whereby the system also carries out a check on the available capacity of the new line.
  • The integration of the capacity planning table has also been enhanced in Release 4.0 so that you can now work in both tables at the same time. Changes you make in the capacity planning table are immediately reflected in the REM planning table and vice versa.
