Assignment of Student Numbers

Scope of Functions

As of release 4.61A, student numbers are stored in the infotype Object(1000, field P1000-SHORT). You can now assign a one to twelve-character alphanumeric student number to students. This change enables you to incorporate the student number into output lists generated in Training and Event Management.

The 8-digit numeric object ID together with the plan version and the object type form the technical identification characteristic for students in the SAP System.

Number assignment

SAP provides the standard functions for assignment of ten-digit numeric student numbers. (In release 4.61A, a prefix must precede the student number for technical reaons). When you create new students, you can either have the system assign the student numbers (internal number assignment) or you can assign the student numbers yourself (external number assignment). You can also use a combination of internal and external number assignment.

Customer enhancement

You can implement your own (user-defined) number assignment procedures by creating a user exit.

Effects on Existing Data

When you upgrade your system to release 4.61A, the existing student master records are no longer consistent. However, no functions have been provided for conversion of existing data records because the Campus Management component is still in its pilot phase.
