Work Breakdown Structure: Changes in Release 3.0

Description

In Release 3.0, the following changes were made in the work breakdown structure (WBS):

  • You can create documents directly while in WBS maintenance and assign them to individual WBS elements.
  • You can create new work breakdown structures by copying a standard WBS.
  • You can lock project coding for (standard) WBS in Customizing to prevent other projects from being created with the same coding.
  • You can enter a special character for project editing in Customizing that allows you to quickly create WBS elements. The system always copies the ID of the superior WBS element or the project definition.
Example: In Customizing, you have defined the character " as a possible entry (F4). In the work breakdown structure, when you insert a new WBS element under the WBS element A-123-LDZ-10, you only have to enter "20".
The system copies the ID from the superior WBS element as follows: A-123-LDZ-.
  • WBS element currency
WBS elements can have their own object currency. The currency in the project definition is only a default currency for new WBS elements. You can change the WBS element currency as long as no currency-dependent rates (cost planning, actual, and so on) exist.
  • You can use subprojects for fixed price agreements between WBS elements.
The WBS can be split up into individual subprojects. Subprojects consist of hierarchically related WBS elements and are called a "subtree" of the entire work breakdown structure.
Each subproject is identified by a unique name. There cannot be two subprojects with same name for one project definition, however, you can use a subproject name for different project definitions.
You enter the subproject name in the WBS element. If you subsequently break this WBS element down further, this identifier is passed on.

New fields

  • Use the project stock indicator to specify that the project has stock separate from normal stock for material requirements planning (MRP) purposes. Please refer to release note "Materials in the Projects" for more information on project stock.
  • You can specify which WBS elements are automatically classified when you create them.
With the change documents indicator, you specify that change documents are created for all master data in the work breakdown structure if status management allows the business transaction "Create change documents".
This business transaction is possible after the system status "release" has been set.
  • The following fields were included in time scheduling: Overall profile for the capacity planning table in both table and graphic form, profile for the project planning board, and profile for time scheduling.
  • The following fields were included for accounting: Financial budget profile, investment profile, interest profile, CO area, statistical indicator.
