Time Scheduling in the WBS: Changes in 3.0

Description

In Release 3.0, the following changes were made in time scheduling in the WBS:

  • The function WBS scheduling is new.
"Scheduled WBS dates" is a new type of date
  • All screens were changed to scrollable screens.
Now included on the screens are the following fields and indicators such as:
  • Activity indicator: whether activities exist for the WBS element

  • Scheduling indicator: whether WBS elements are up-to-date, and thus, whether scheduling of the WBS is necessary

  • If you create activities for a WBS element and no network exists, you can use an existing network to copy from.
  • The initial screen was revised: by using the indicator With activities, you determine whether you select the WBS with or without activities.

Changes and new functions in the menus

The menu was revised and restructured.

You can use Copy from... to copy standard WBS elements and standard projects.

  • Under the menu option Object you can use all of the functions available for editing a WBS such as: creating new objects, level up, level down.
  • You can use Compare dates -> Adjust dates to copy the scheduled dates of the WBS elements directly to the basic dates.
  • You can use Check dates to
  • check the time frame of the basic dates in the WBS elements (WBS structure)

  • check the time frame of the basic dates between the WBS elements and the activities (WBS activity)

  • check the time frame of the scheduled basic dates in the WBS elements

  • set "final" confirmation for a WBS element (final confirmation of WBS)

  • The function Detail dates was renamed Constraints-activity and included in the Resource planning menu.

  • You can use Resource planning to view the following reports:
  • Capacity load proj. shows the load on the work centers of the selected WBS elements in the planning table (tabular form).

  • Capacity leveling shows the entire load of all work centers for the project including all assigned activities.

  • Capacity evaluations show the capacity load by work center, by WBS element, or for the entire WBS

The menu Details is new. You can access WBS element data, earned value analysis, status and profile data from this menu.

  • Using View, you can access other sets of dates.
  • The assignment function was added to the functions under the menu option Planning parameters.
  • You can access two new logs via the menu option Logs:
  • Scheduled dates for WBS elements

  • Lock log for activities

In Release 3.0, the following changes were made regarding actual dates:

  • The system copies actual dates from activity confirmations to the WBS element assigned to it and displays these dates as tentative actual start and finish dates.
  • You use the indicator Cn to determine whether an actual finish date can be set for the WBS element.

Effects on Customizing

In Release 3.0 the indicator Activity dates in the project profile was dropped.

This indicator was used to specify that start and finish dates for the WBS element should come solely from the activity dates.

This indicator is replaced by the indicator Adjust basic dates in the profile for WBS scheduling.

  1. Maintain the indicator Adjust basic dates in the profile for WBS scheduling Additional information
  2. Set up the profile for WBS scheduling in the project profile: Additional information

For time scheduling, you must maintain the following settings in Customizing:

You must enter all profiles in the project profile: Additional information
  • In the project profile, you must additionally enter the following parameters for time scheduling on the WBS:
  • Overall profile for the tabular and graphical planning table.

Maintain the parameters. Additional information
