New Master Data Functions: Time-Dependent Funds Centers

From 4.01A, funds centers are time-dependent; this has meant changes to funds center hierarchy maintenance too:
Time-dependent funds centers
In the funds center master record, you can define an existence interval without gaps. The following data is valid in a funds center throughout its existence and cannot be changed:
- Alphanumeric code (name of funds center)
- FM area assignment
- Existence interval (see information on Planning below)
- Class assignment
- Long text information
- Authorization group
All other attributes, such as the fund or person responsible for the fund center, can be change within specified periods. The advantage of this is that current and future changes have no effect on existing data sets. You can list the individual periods and the status of the attributes in them in the funds center master record.
The time-dependent funds center functions are available in all FM areas without the need for further configuration work.
Hierarchy Variant
The hierarchical links between funds centers are now reproduced in a hierarchy variant. You maintain the hierarchy structure in a tree structure, not, as before, in the SAP hierarchy graphics editor.
You can create more than one hierarchy variant. At first, these are not dependent on fiscal years. They do not become so until you assign a valid hierarchy variant for the current fiscal year.
The funds center hierarchy in an FM area can be year-dependent or year-independent. If you want to work on a year-dependent basis, you must enter a new hierarchy variant assignment for your FM area at each fiscal year change. If you would rather work on a year-independent basis, assign a hierarchy variant to fiscal year "000".
Installation information
The old, year-independent funds centers are automatically copied for the new functions. To this end, customizing and master data entries are made automatically.
Existing funds centers are taken over as follows:
- The funds center hierarchy is reproduced in hierarchy variant "0000". No time limit is set on the validity duration entered in each funds center.
Note that there should be no problems changing from year-independent maintenance to year-dependent. However, if you have already done year-dependent maintenance work, you cannot switch to year-independent maintenance.

In preparation, you can change the existence interval for a funds center already in place, even if it has used since you went live.
Changing the interval makes year-dependent funds center maintenance easier.
