Generating WBS element groups

Description

In Release 4.0A, you can expand existing WBS element groups by generating groups.

This new function makes sense when you want to link different fields of the selection criteria of the logical database using OR conditions.

To do so, you first need to create a group with the first part of the OR condition in the selection parameters. Then expand the group by generating it again with the second part of the OR condition.

For technical reasons (consistency with other groups in CO, such as cost element or cost center groups), the name of the WBS element group has been reduced from 12 to 10 characters. This also applies for when you generate groups.

In addition, Release 4.0A lets you create variants for groups and then add the suffix ".ABCD".

For this reason, the entry fields for WBS element groups in cost element planning and in allocations have 15 characters.

Damage caused to data by errors

Due to the shortened name length for groups, existing groups from earlier releases can no longer be changed by generation. However, you can still continue to use them.

To convert existing groups to groups with 10-character names, execute program RGSREN00. For more information, see the documentation on this program.

Further notes

Sets and WBS element groups maintained manually in set maintenance can have the same name in Release 4.0A.
