Enhancements to the Dynamic Item Processor

Use

The dynamic item processor (DIP) controls data processing in the sales pricing, resource-related billing, and results analysis. From this release, the SAP system offers comprehensive DIP functions.

Overview of the New Functions

  • You can now carry out sales pricing based on the data supplied by the new costing tool Easy Cost Planning.
  • When reading the sources, the system fills in additional characteristics, thereby permitting even more detailed breakdowns of costing data.
  • More indicators and configuration options make maintaining the DIP profile easier.

The new functions in detail:

Additional Source:

You can now carry out sales pricing based on data from Easy Cost Planning. If you maintain the source Easy Cost Planning, the system uses this data to set up the dynamic items for sales pricing. The new source can also fill the new characteristics (work center, work center plant, and business process).

In the case of sales pricing created in the Project Builder and not relating to a customer inquiry, the system can only evaluate Easy Cost Planning data. However, you can also use the Easy Cost Planning data as an additional source for sales pricing with a customer inquiry.

Additional Characteristics:

Depending on the source being read, the DIP fills a series of new characteristics, such as the personnel number, work center, work center plant, business process, and service number. You can now use these characteristics to structure the dynamic item overview in the sales price/expenditure view.

The personnel number characteristic is, for example, useful in consulting or customer service, if you want to bill the ordering party for orders worked per employee using resource-related billing.

The DIP fills the new characteristics from the following sources:

Characteristic Sources
Personnel number Actual cost line items
Actual cost totals records
Statistical key figures
Actual line items
Plan cost totals records
Work center Easy Cost Planning
Work center plant Easy Cost Planning
Business process Easy Cost Planning
Actual cost line items
Actual cost totals records
Plan cost totals records
Service number Easy Cost Planning

Additional Indicators and Configuration Options:

The indicators and settings described in the following are all in the Project System IMG under Revenues and Earnings -> Integration with SD Documents (SD) -> Creating Quotations and Project Billing -> Maintain Profiles for Quotations and Project Billing.

  • DI with Material
You set this indicator in the Usage view.
You use this indicator to determine how dynamic items with no material number are processed. The system reads the material number from the source or determines it from Material Determination.
If you do not set this indicator, an error message appears as usual while you are procesing a dynamic item without a material number. Processing cannot continue until you assign a material to the dynamic item.
When you set the indicator, the system processes only those items with material numbers. Dynamic items without them are not processed.
  • Value
You fill this field in the Criteria view in Material Determination.
From this release, you can use this field to assign both characteristic sets and individual values to the material.
This reduces the work involved because you no longer need to create a separate set for each individual value.
  • Quantity Conversion
You set this indicator in the Material Determination view.
This indicator determines the unit of measure used in the sales document to show the quantity from the dynamic items.
If you do not set this indicator, the system adopts the unit of measure from the dynamic items.

If you do set the indicator, the system checks whether you have maintained a sales unit. If you have, the system converts the unit of measure from the dynamic items into the sales unit. If you have not, the system converts the unit of measure from the dynamic items into the base unit of measure.
We deliver the system with the indicator not set.
  • Create and Display Sets in DIP Profile Maintenance
You can now use the Selection Criteria and Criteria views in Material Determination to maintain and display a set of the characteristics maintained in each case. This reduces the work involved because you do not need to leave DIP profile maintenance to do this.
