New Functions in Detail

Additional Functions

From this release, the following period-end close functions support worklists in the Schedule Manager:

  • WBS settlement rule generation
  • Project progress

The automation now possible for worklists, along with the enhanced analysis facilities, permit quicker, more efficient period-end closing, and reduce the work involved.

Workflow Support for Error Postprocessing

As a rule, the people who monitor period-end closing are not the same people who make and resulting corrections to defective master data fields. From this release, the Schedule Manager handle this work apportionment by means of a workflow, which delegates postprocessing of defective objects to the people responsible.

To this end, the system derives who is responsible for an object from its master data attributes. For example, the system can use the controlling area, company code, plant, and the first letter of the project ID to determine the user responsible and use a workflow message to notify that person that an object requires processing. The user can branch from the workflow message to the worklist monitor; this shows only the objects that have been delegated to him or her.

Hierarchy Display

From this release, the worklist monitor shows the objects not only in a single-level list, but also in a hierachical list, in line with the project structure. The hierarchical display makes error analysis easier, particularly in the processes that process several project branches at once, such as the project interest calculation, results analysis, and project-related incoming orders.

The hierarchy view offers broadly the same functions and jump options as the single-level list. The only difference is that, in the hierarchy list, you can change the processing status for only one object at a time.

Hierarchy Comparison

Changes in the project hierarchy - for example, moving orders in the project - can have unwanted consequences. For this reason, it is important that you should be able to obtain information on such changes in the Schedule Manager.

From this release, you can use the worklist monitor to compare hierarchyinformation stored in the worklist - that is, the project hierarchy at the time of period-end closing - with the current project structure or a simulation version. If you obtain the Schedule Manager worklists for one period at a time, you can keep a continual eye on hierarchy changes.

Display Cause of Consquential Errors

In the case of processes that process several project branches at once, such as the project interest calculation, results analysis, and project-related incoming orders, the processing status Consequential error can occur. The system allocates this status when an error does not occure in the actual object requiring processing, but in an object subordinate to it. This way, the system prevents further processing of inconsistent values.

When correcting errors that have occurred during period-end closing, you often only have time to correct errors for selected objects - for example, those that are particular cost-intensive. For this release, from this release, it is possible, when the processing status Consequential errors occurs, to display only the messages for those objects that are responsible for this processing status. This enables you to target objects for postprocessing.

Template Program for Customer-Specific Programs

If you want to use the Schedule Manager worklist for report programs of your own, you need both a specific program structure and confirmation of object and processing information to the Schedule Manager.

Schedule Manager Voraussetzung.

From this release, you can satisfy these prerequisites very easily by using program RKATB01COWL. This program provides a template that sets up the Schedule Manager infrastructure itself and handles the confirmation of processing information to the Schedule Manager. You can incorporate customer-specific functions into the program.
