Enhancements and Changes in Editing Shift Plans

Use

The following enhancements and changes are a result of the Table Control being replaced by an OCX control (ready-for-input ALV grid control) in the overview for Shift Planning (transaction PP61), as well as of the Color and Font Formatting concept:

  • Shift Plan in Classic Design/Color Design
The Settings menu option in the Shift Planning initial screen has been enhanced to include shift plan in color design and shift plan in classic design.
This means that you can now choose to work in either the new color design (ALV grid control), or in the conventional classic design (Table Control).
This option is controlled by the SET-GET parameter PE_GRID.
The shift plan is automatically called up in the color design.
  • Synchronization of Calendar Columns
Previously, the scrolling function in the shift plan and in Requirements Matchup were dependent upon each other, which meant that an identical column position of the same calendar day was never guaranteed.
Now, the position of each calendar column is identical in both shift plan displays (color design and classic design).
You can also expand/reduce cells in the calendar columns in both the shift plan and Requirements Matchup, in order to display more or less days, for example.
  • Compressed Display of Requirements Records
Previously, requirements records of different types (day determination rules), but with the same requirements description were displayed in separate lines (shift plan in classic design).
Now, these lines are shown in a compressed display when the shift plan is in color design. This ensures that requirements records that have the same description, but differ in terms of requirements types (requirement on Monday/Tuesday) are displayed in one single line.
  • Display Requirements Matchup in One/Two Lines
Previously, Requirements Matchup was always displayed in a single line, where individually-defined icons were used to indicate the current level of coverage. A number was also displayed in the requirements field, to enable you to see how many employees had already been assigned to the requirement.
This display feature has now been changed in shift plans in color design. Now, the target number of employees required to cover a requirement, and the actual number of employees currently assigned are both displayed. If you want to use two lines to improve the display, you can choose to use a separate line for both the target number, and the actual number of employees.
  • Define Size of Shift Plans and Requirements Matchup
You can now use a splitter, which enables you to define different sizes for shift plans and Requirements Matchup. These settings are then saved by the system, and will be available the next time you call up the shift plan.
  • Display/Hide Shift Abbreviation Bar
A new feature in release 4.6C is the shift abbreviation bar. You can choose to display or hide this bar, in which all shift abbreviations belonging to a shift group are displayed. You can define the available abbreviations, and the order in which they are displayed in the bar in the IMG for Shift Planning.
  • Functions: Drag & Drop and Mark & Replace
You can now select employees or their shifts, and use the Drag&Drop function to assign them to a requirement. In doing so, the assignment options that have already been specified for each requirement are also taken into consideration.
You can now use the shift abbreviation bar to create or edit shifts, using Mark & Replace. To do so, select the shift abbreviation that you want to edit or create in the shift plan, and click on the desired shift abbreviation in the shift abbreviation bar. The abbreviation you choose from the bar is inserted directly in the shift plan.
If this field is not ready for input, or if the changes make no sense from a business point of view, (such as replacing a Flextime shift with an Availability), the relevant abbreviations are not affected by this function.
  • Restrict Automatic Proposal Determination to Specific Requirements
Previously, all employees and requirements in the current shift plan were included in automatic proposal determination. In other words, all available employees were divided among all open requirements.
Now, you can select certain requirements or requirements records in Requirements Matchup (line selection). Employees can then be assigned to these requirements/requirements records during automatic proposal determination.
  • Automatic Assignment if Shifts/Working Times Changed in Shift Plans
When the shift plan is in color design mode, you can activate or deactivate the setting under Settings that performs an automatic assignment of employees when shift or working times are changed in the shift plan.
If you activate the automatic assignment for shift changes option, any shifts or working times that are changed in the shift plan are automatically assigned to the requirement with corresponding times in Requirements Matchup.
This assignment is performed on the basis of the assignment options that were set in the strategy that is valid for automatic assignment.
