Short text
Sales: Copying BOM items
Description
Items with BOM explosion are either based on predefined sales BOMs or they result from a variant configuration. When you explode an SD document, subitems representing the components of the BOM result.
As of Release 3.0E, you can control for items which explode a bill of material whether a further BOM explosion should occur when copying.
Unlike in the previous copying logic for items with a bill of material, you can now set the system to
explode a BOM again according to the new BOM explosion date (determined from the requested delivery
date or the current date) and the new quantity (if only a partial quantity of the reference document is copied). Other components may be determined in the process.

Effects on Customizing
You control the new functionality at item level in copying control for "Sales document to sales document".
The control is activated with the option New structure. If you do not use this option, the system will refer to the previous copying logic.
Example: Sales order with BOM item
Item Material Qty UoM Item category |
10 STL-MAT 2 pc TAQ |
20 KOMP1 2 pc TAE |
30 KOMP2 4 pc TAE |
To reference this sales order, up to now entries had to be defined in the copying control for item categories TAQ and TAE. If this was not done, the respective items were not copied. This meant that when copying, the connection between the items could be lost, or the same BOM explosion as in the reference document was always used. However, since the new sales order can sometimes have a much later date, the bill of material can have another layout on this date and the result of the explosion may be very different.
With the new functionality in Release 3.0E, you can use the new option New structure = 'X' in copying control for the item category of the main item (for example TAQ copied to TAQ). This ensures that only the main item is copied and the respective bill of material is then exploded again with a new date and a new quantity if necessary.
Consequently, subitems are no longer copied and are no longer subject to copying control. The table entries for copying item category TAE to TAE are no longer necessary in this case. The system does not take them into account even if they are still present.
