Use

Business function Financials, Group Close, Adjustment of Deferred Taxes is available as of Business Consolidation 6.0, Enhancement Package 4 (SEM-BCS 6.04). If tax rates change from period to period, you can use this business function to make automatic standardizing entries for deferred taxes in the Group Close.

Depending on the legal requirements, if the tax rate changes, the balances of deferred taxes are to be adjusted according to the new tax rate. The required adjustments can, depending on the FS item, be posted via the income statement in a way that affects earnings or can be posted in a way that does not affect earnings.

Manually adjusting the deferred taxes that result from consolidation tasks would require a large amount of effort, especially in large organizations with a large number of document types and business combinations. You can use the Adjustment of Deferred Taxes business function to automate the standardizing entries required.

The standardizing entries for the adjustment of deferred taxes are made using the existing Period Initialization task category. This means that, from now on, period initialization tasks have two functions in relation to the posting of documents:

  • Inversion of documents from earlier periods
These will continue to be posted with the original document type (that is, with the document type with which the documents to be inverted were posted).
  • Posting of tax adjustments
These are posted with separate document types that you must create in the new Customizing and assign to the period initialization tasks.

When you execute these tasks in the consolidation monitor, the system selects the data records that are to be adjusted, calculates the adjustments required, and posts the corresponding documents.

Additional Functions

Once you have activated the Adjustment of Deferred Taxes business function, the following additional functions are also available to you:

  • Integrated loading from data stream for main asset number and asset subnumber
As of SEM-BCS 6.0, you can specify that independent fields of a compound of characteristics are also to be uploaded during the flexible upload of assets/liabilities.
If you activate the new business function, you can also use this function for the Load from Data Stream data collection method.
  • Balance carryforward of equity data in accordance with totals data for equity method of consolidation
If the equity is read partly from the totals database and partly from additional financial data, a special logic is used in the balance carryforward for fully consolidated units (purchase methods) to ensure consistency between equity from the totals data and equity from the additional financial data in the following year even if the location of the values changes.
If you activate the new business function, you can also activate this special logic in the Customizing of balance carryforward tasks for units consolidated according to the equity method.
  • Reporting mode Reference
This reporting mode allows you to expand the enterprise hierarchy for the reference period and display it according to fiscal period.
  • Elimination of IU profit and loss in the current assets without inventory data stream
If you have activated the Group Close business function from Enhancement Package 2, the inventory data can be read not only from the additional financial data, but alternatively also from the totals database. Until now, it was necessary to generate an inventory data stream even if the data was read from the totals database.
If you activate the new business function, you can use the elimination of IU profit and loss in the current assets without generating an inventory data stream as long as the inventory data is read from the totals database.
  • Validation of investment data from the totals database
Until now, only additional financial data was checked during the validation of investment data. The totals data for investment was not checked until runtime during the consolidation of investments.
If you activate the new business function, you can also have the system check investment data from the totals database during this validation.
  • Interpretation of divestitures during the posting of group shares
When executing a task of category Posting of Group Shares and when analyzing the group shares, you can specify that the system is to interpret total divestitures and investor-induced partial divestitures in the same way as it does during the consolidation of investments.
  • Execution of task groups without automatic blocking
If you have activated the Group Close business function from Enhancement Package 2, you can update task groups in the consolidation monitor with or without blocking. Until now, you could only update task groups in the consolidation workbench and in batch processing with automatic blocking.
If you activate the new business function, you can update task groups in the consolidation workbench and in batch processing without automatic blocking.

Effects on Existing Data

Effects on the User Interface:

  • Menu of the Consolidation Workbench
Once you have activated the Adjustment of Deferred Taxes function in the consolidation area, the period initialization Customizing no longer appears under Consolidation Functions -> Other Tasks, but appears instead as a folder directly under Consolidation Functions. If you have personalized the main navigation of the consolidation workbench, you may have to adjust your settings after you have activated the new business function.
This folder contains the following configuration screens:
  • Task

This screen lists all period initialization tasks.
  • Document Type

This screen lists all document types that post automatically (not manually) post on posting levels 10, 20, and 30 with Use 9 (Other) for which there is no automatic inversion and for which no deferred taxes are posted.
  • Posting for Adjustment of Deferred Taxes

On this screen, you must enter a balance sheet account for offsetting entries for the tax adjustments.
  • Workflow Variant

This screen lists the standard workflow functions.
  • Consolidation area
The Adjustment of Deferred Taxes function has been added to the list of the properties of consolidation areas.
The following data has been added to the list of the field properties of a consolidation area:
  • Details: Basic Data and Dependencies -> Period Initialization: If you have activated the adjustment of deferred taxes for a consolidation area, role PICUST is displayed under Basic Data and attribute ACCID_DTAXAPPR is displayed under Version-Dependent Attributes.

  • New characteristic Period Initialization Customizing (PICUST) is displayed under Summarized Display of Basic Data of Characteristics.

  • Row Period Initialization: Customizing (attribute ACCID_DTAXAPPR) is now displayed under Summarized Display of Time and Version Dependencies.

  • Methods for loading from the data stream
In the Customizing of methods for loading from the data stream for assets/liabilities (master data), you can select a checkbox so that the system also loads the superordinate field for the asset master data.
  • Balance carryforward tasks
In the Customizing of balance carryforward tasks, you can specify an assignment to posting levels, which you can also do after you have activated the Group Close business function from Enhancement Package 2.
In addition, you can select a checkbox in the global settings of the balance carryforward task to activate the special logic for the balance carryforward for capital data according to the totals database for equity units.
  • Database list
Additional reporting mode Reference appears on the selection screen for listing totals data.
  • Posting of group shares
On the selection screen for executing a task of category Posting of Group Shares and for listing the group shares, you can select a checkbox to activate the interpretation of divestitures in analogy to the standard behavior of capital consolidation in relation to divestitures.
  • Execution of task groups
On the selection screen for executing a task group, you can select a checkbox to prevent tasks from being locked automatically once they have been executed successfully.
  • Task log
In the log for period initialization tasks, the tax adjustment postings are now also displayed in addition to the document inversion.

Effects on System Administration

Carry out the following steps in the consolidation workbench to configure the adjustment of deferred taxes:

  • Activate the function in the consolidation area
Activate the Adjustment of Deferred Taxes function by setting the corresponding indicator in the consolidation area (in the process view of the Consolidation Workbench under Data Model -> Consolidation Area, tab page Settings).
  • Suppress the tax adjustment for certain items
Under Master Data -> Items -> Balance Sheet Items for Deferred Taxes, you can flexibly configure the posting of deferred taxes as in the Group Close business function from Enhancement Package 2. If you do not want to carry out adjustment of deferred taxes for certain balance sheet items, you can suppress this by selecting a new checkbox.
  • Specify an offsetting item
To specify an offsetting item in the balance sheet for the adjustment of deferred taxes, choose Consolidation Functions -> Period Initialization -> Posting for Adjustment of Deferred Taxes.
  • Create document types for the adjustment of deferred taxes
To create document types for standardizing entries, choose Consolidation Functions -> Period Initialization -> Document Types.
  • Create period initialization tasks
You must create at least three period initialization tasks which post on different posting levels. Choose Consolidation Functions -> Period Initialization -> Task.
  • Specify the task sequence
Before each period initialization task, a balance carryforward task must be carried out on the respective posting level. Adjust the task sequence accordingly in the consolidation monitor Customizing.
