ABAP Code Search (database-dependent)

Use

If you are using HANA as primary database for your system, you can enable the ABAP Source Search. With this feature you can search within the whole ABAP codebase of your system for a certain word, a pattern or a combination of patterns in a very fast and efficient way without being limited to a certain function group, a class or a report.

This feature is exclusively available in our new development environment for ABAP, called ABAP Development Tools for Eclipse (ABAP in Eclipse). You can access it as a tab in the Eclipse search dialog (shortcut Ctrl-H).

If you switch on this business function, a full text index on all ABAP sources will be created which may take several hours. It is recommended to do that during a period when the system load is low. On systems with other databases than HANA the activation of this business function won't have any effect.

Effects on Existing Data

Existing source code won't be touched, as only the aforementioned full text index will be created.

Effects on Data Transfer

On each change or activation of source code, the newly created full text index will be updated asynchronously, i.e. it could take some seconds for the changes to be reflected in the search results.

Effects on System Administration

The activation of this business function will create a new full text index on table REPOSRC. Depending on the size of this table, the memory consumption of this system will increase considerably. Please ensure to have at least 10GB of free memory in your system before you switch on this business function. If the memory isn't enough, the system may become very slow or even unusable.
