SRM_CONT_IMPR_1: Optimistic Locking (New)

Use

As of SAP enhancement package 1 for SAP Supplier Relationship Management 7.0 (SAP SRM 7.0), you can choose to enable optimistic locking. With optimistic locking, the system response time when switching from display mode to edit mode is greatly improved.

Without optimistic locking, documents are not locked when opened in display mode. Therefore, when switching from display mode to edit mode, buffers have to be refreshed by reading the most up-to-date document from the database.

With optimistic locking, the document is locked with a shared lock in display mode. When the mode is switched to edit mode, the shared lock is upgraded to an exclusive lock. If the upgrade is successful, buffers do not have to be refreshed since the shared optimistic-lock ensures consistency between the data in the buffers and the data on the database.

You define the Customizing settings for this function in Customizing for SAP Supplier Relationship Management under SRM Server -→ Technical Basic Settings--> Activate/Deactivate Optimistic Lock.
