Payment Details for Loans

Description

Functions have been added for loans that are not managed on the basis of customer accounts. You can now:

  • Maintain payment details in loans and borrower's note orders. The system automatically defaults to the values defined in the business partner standing instructions.
  • Update Cash Management using the house bank specified in the payment details.
  • Apply the replacement rule for the house bank in account determination using the house bank specified in the payment details (see Loan payment activity)
  • Generate payment requests using the payment program for payment requests.
  • Net the payments generated in this way with other Treasury payments.
  • Process payments for borrowing activities (loans taken).

Maintenance of payment details in the business partner standing instructions:

  • You can maintain payment details for all product types for which the payment request option in Customizing is active.

Maintenance of payment details in a loan:

  • If the payment details option in Customizing for the product type is active, you can maintain payment details in the loan. When you create a loan, the system always defaults to the payment details in the business partner standing instructions, regardless of whether you branch to the maintenance screen. For the product category 'Borrower's note loan', the system uses the most recent counterparty. If there is no counterparty, the issuer is used. For all other product categories, the system uses the most recent alternative payer/ee. If there is no alternative payer/ee, the main loan partner is used. If there are several payers/payees, you can select the one you require using a selection screen.

Maintenance of payment details in a borrower's note order:

  • Creation of a borrower's note contract via 'Contract -> Create': See above
  • Creation of a borrower's note order via 'Trading -> Order -> Create': The system uses the counterparty you specify as the payer/payee for the purchase/sale flow and defaults to the business partner standing instructions. You can change the payment details for the purchase or sale in the order.

Assignment of payment details to flows

  • You can assign payment details to flows according to direction, currency, effective date and flow type. When you save the loan (after creating or changing it), the system assigns the payment details to the flows, taking the corresponding Customizing settings for the flow type into account (see below: Customizing).
  • You can see how the payment details have been assigned in the cash flow (use a display variant for payment details).
  • If you generate incoming payments automatically when you post the flows, the system also assigns the payment details to these incoming payments, assuming:
  • The incoming payment flows have been customized accordingly

  • Appropriate payment details have been defined

The payment details for the debit position are then deleted. You can also use this function for borrower's note orders.

Generation of payment requests upon posting:

  • When a posting is made, the system determines whether a payment request should be generated by looking at the flow. The bank posting is made to the payment clearing account and the payment clearing account is recorded in the payment request. The bank account specified is used as the source account for account determination (symbol for the payment activity in the posting specifications, where the value of the posting category is '3' (bank)).

Disbursement:

  • When you enter a disbursement, the system uses the appropriate payment details for disbursement, including the house bank. To change the house bank, you must change the payment details in the contract.

Manual posting:

  • The procedure for disbursements also applies for flows entered using the manual posting function.

Replacement rule for the specified house bank account:

  • In account determination, an indicator has been added for the payment activity (value '2'). The system uses this value when a house bank account has been specified for the flow to be posted and the value for the posting category is '3'. In this case, you can define an account on the bank side with a replacement rule (such as ++++++++++5). The house bank account you have specified is used as the basis. The additional value '2' allows you to manage product types with and without payment requests in parallel.

Reversal of flows with payment requests:

  • If a payment request was generated with a posting, and you now want to reverse the posting, you need to distinguish between two cases:
  • The payment has not been made: The payment request is reversed when you reverse the posting.

  • The payment has been made: A corresponding message appears when you carry out the reversal, but reversal is possible. The system generates a work list in the payment clearing account and you must process the transaction from there.

Contract transfer:

  • You can only transfer a contract if you do not need to reverse any postings that have generated payment requests. If you need to reverse any postings, you must perform the reversal before you transfer the contract.

Effects on Customizing

  • Assign the planning levels for the Cash Management update.

If you do not enter a direction for the flow (for example, rate gain, accrual/deferral), the system does not transfer the payment details for the loan. If you enter the flow direction, the system selects the appropriate payment details.

You can use this field to prohibit the generation of payment requests for a particular flow type.

You can use this field to prescribe individual payment for a particular flow type.
  • Adapt account determination (see above):
In addition to the payment activity setting, note the following:
  • Posting without payables and receivables accounts:

If you post flows for interest, repayments and charges without using a corresponding receivables account (or payables account for loans taken), such as 'bank clearing to interest revenue' or 'interest expense to bank clearing' for an interest posting, you must make special customizing settings for the withholding flows.
Withholding flows are required to withhold discounts, interest and charges from a disbursement or borrower's note purchase order. They are used to reduce the payment amount (generated on the basis of the nominal disbursement amount) by the withholding amount.

Example: Disbursement/borrower's note purchase
If you generate a payment request for a disbursement/borrower's note purchase and want to post the payment without using payables and receivables accounts, you must define account determination for the withholding flow 'clearing to bank clearing' and for the reduction 'bank clearing to clearing'.
  • The system generates two payment requests: one for the disbursement or purchase flow and one for the payment reduction (or increase, in the case of a premium). The system ensures that both payment requests are netted during the payment run and that a payment medium is only generated for the net payment amount.

Example: Disbursement EUR 100.000 at a rate of 98% = 2% discount

1. Withhold discount - no posting to accounts receivable
Disbursement   EUR 100.000   Position to bank clearing
Discount   EUR 2.000   Bank clearing to acc./def.
Disc.withh.   EUR 2.000   Clearing to bank clearing
Disb.reduction   EUR 2.000   Bank clearing to clearing
2. Withhold discount - posting to accounts receivable
Disbursement   EUR 100.000   Position to bank clearing
Discount   EUR 2.000   Receivables to accrual/deferral
Disc.withh.   EUR 2.000   Clearing to receivables
Disb.reduction   EUR 2.000   Bank clearing to clearing

The system checks the payment methods before the flows are netted in the payment program. Thus, if you make a disbursement with a reduction, you must also specify a payment method for the disbursement, which has the direction of the reduction. The system copies the disbursement payment methods to the reduction, which means there is always an appropriate payment method for the direction of the reduction. This allows the system to net the payment requests. The system does not allow you to save a disbursement or purchase order that contains a reduction unless you have specified the appropriate payment method.

This payment method is never used in the payment run, since the disbursement amount is always greater than the reduction. Thus, the net amount always has the direction of the disbursement.

In Customizing for the flow type, define a direction for the reduction flow type. This is required to generate the payment request.
